ARGO CHAPEL, Argo, N. C. Dec. 21, 1896.
Dear Parents and Friends:
I have just finished copying our Chapel roll and
as I wrote all the last name, remembering our joys and sorrows,
high days and holiday, and the individual associations in which
we have become near and dear to each other, it did seem possible
that but eighteen months ago we were strangers. It is not quite
eighteen months, the 2nd Sunday, July, '95., since we first met
and the Chapel and organized. We had very little materially to
build upon - but the little Chapel on the Argo Mining Company's
property, a box of hymnals and lesson books from Mr. John E.
Baird, Phila. - but we had eager hearts and God's Eternal
Promises. "Them that honor Me I will honor."
There were eighteen present, but as there was some
misunderstanding about the hour thirteen came too late for
school. Here is a column of figures, it is a record of
attendance of our big school days up to Oct. 1st, last year,
when the prayer books and hymnals were distributed as rewards of
merit.
