253. James Henry HARRIS was born in 1836 in Warren County, North Carolina. He died in 1898. He was buried in Fam. Cem., Vaughn, Warren County, NC. During the Civil War he enlisted 27 JUN 1861 at Camp Weldon N. E dwards under Col. William Hayes CHEEK. He was a 1st Lt. under Co l. Robert Ransom and served in Co. E. 1st NC Cavalry. Later he s erved as courier for Gen. J. E. B. Stuart. He was captured and s ent first to Point Lookout then to Elmyra Prison. I have no info rmation about his release from prison but his mother-in-law, Reb ecca Pitchford DAVIS, mentioned that he was back in Warrenton du ring the war.

She died on 26 May 1860 in Warren County, North Carolina. In the 1850 Census Mary is listed as a student in the Seminary i n Warrenton. Family legend has it that she went out and got sno w to make snow cream for her wedding reception and got pneumoni a and died from it.
