527. Augustus Henry LEWIS was born on 17 Jun 1842 in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. He died on 19 Nov 1922 in Winkler, Freestone County, Texas. He was buried in St. Elmo Cemetery. On 25 September 1861 Augustus enlisted in Co. A, Col. Bailey's V olunteers, 30th Georgia Infantry Regiment. During the second bat tle of Jackson, Mississippi he was shot in his left knee and suf fered gangrene but recovered and served again in the Army of Ten nessee. He was paroled in Washington, Georgia on 2 June 1865. H e moved to Freestone County, Texas where many of his family wer e living.
