George Washington Pegram
1809 - 1884

This photograph is from an early history of Harnett County, North Carolina..  The caption under the photograph in the book reads: "Chairman of the Meeting Which Established Harnett County".  George W. Pegram was the father of William Howell Pegram for whom Pegram Hall at Duke University was named and the  grand-father of George Braxton Pegram, the noted physicist who became Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
