Will of Jesse Bell - 1805 Warren Co., NC

In the name of God Amen. I Jesse Bell of the County of Warrin and State of North Carolina Being low in health but in perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men...to die. do make this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all i give and commend my soul to the hands of almighty god that gave it and my boddy I recommend to the earth to burial in a discreet Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing douting but at the general resurrection I shall ---the same again. By the mighty power of God (illegible)

First i give and bequeath to my son Charles a part of a tract of land I purchased of James Lanwich beginning a a post oak on the old road from that near a south corde to Robt. R. Johnson's line upon a small post oak by his ash saplins thence Robt R. Johnson line on west course to a poplar on Moses Shearins comertaking a long laid the ---line north to a timber white oak for a comer to starting line to the pasture my son Charles and ---thence. *** supposing to be one hundred and seventy acres more or less and one---a bed of furniture and some other things I lent him and I here release and give them to him forever.

I also give to my son Benjamin a certin tract or parcel of land bounded by Wm Myrick's line Joseph John Shearins Charles Wortham and Jacob Bells also the part of the tract of land I bought at the sale of John Shearin and joining of the afore tract to ...two hundred and ten acres more or less in addition to one bed and furniture, one horse and some other house furniture i lent him I now release and give them to him forever.

i give to daughter Parthena one hundred pounds in money of this state to be paid by the hands of my executors and would add to that a bed and furnishings and I lent and other house furniture I now --and give them to her forever.

I give to my son Jacob one sertin tract or parcel of land whereon he now lives beginning on a ash on the coprery Branch through the old field to a small hicory saplin an elbow from thence to a small spanish oak, saplin and elbow from thence ---a southwest corse to a timber white oak on Moses Shearins line thence north to the little ..... thence up the rode to knitnee creek to a poplar a corner thence down the meanders of sd creek to a poplar a corner thence marking and elbow of a line made by James Landwich to ...... around the old field commonly called handwiches old fields, continuing to a red oak on the Capneny Branch thence up the Branch to the first station. Suppose the same to be one hundred ten acres more or less likewise one bed of furniture I lent and other house furniture I now release and give them to him forever.

I also give unto my son Jesse one certin tract of land begining at a post oak on the old road thence near a south comer cit on my son Charles's line to Robt. R. Johnson's line to a small post oak and red oak saplins all the land on that side of the rode he lives on also a small bit of land on the opposite side of said rode I purchast of Wm Myrick likewise a bed of furmture and some other trifling things I lent to him I now release and give them to him forever.

I also give to my daughter Polley a tract of land I bought of Wm. Loughtin containing one hundred more or less one bed of furniture and other trifling house furniture I give them to her forever.

I also give to my daughter Rebecca a center tract or parcel of land lying on the branches of hawtree Creek binding on the old rode leading to Calliers on the north side of sd. rode begiuing at a little Freen[?] the head of the Spring Branch down the said branch to eafraim Ellis and John Elliss hence the part lying on the west side of said branch all the land ajoining to the said rode I suppose to be one hundred and fifty acres...more or less allso one bed of furniture with some other house articles I give them to her forever. t also give to my daughter Lucy one hundred pound curancy in place of some land I once intended giving her and one bcd of furniture and some other articles I once lent I give to her forever.

Thc remainder part of my estate...I give after my debts being first paid I leave to be equally divided between all my children both sons and daughters.

I do hereby appoint my son Charles Bell and son Jesse Bell my Executors to this my last will and testament in witness whereoff I hcrby set my hand and seal this 17 day of December 1803.

Warren County August Court 1805 This last will and testament of Jesse Bell dec'd was proved in open court by the oaths of Willis White and William Watson subscribing witnesses and upon motion ordered to be recorded whereupon Charles and Jesse Bell executors so named qualified according to law and letters testamentary were granted. Note:

Date of death comes from Raleigh Register for 26 Aug 1805. His will written 17 Dec 1803; proved Aug Ct. 1805. Will mentions son Charles Extr, Benjamin, Jacob, Jesse, Extr, daughters Parthena, Polly, Rebecca and Lucy. Parthena (Parthenia) Bell married John Pegram, son of George Pegram, Sr. who is the ancestor of many of the Pegrams of Guilford and Forsyth Co., NC.
