1790 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

We have no conclusive proof as to the identity of William shown on this 1790 census record.  Our best guess after years of reviewing the options is that this is William, son of John of Virginia who relocated to Cumberland Co., N.C. before he is found there on the 1800 Census of Cumberland Co., N.C.

1800 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

The 1800 census shows that one son of Daniel has now married, i.e. Henry, and Henry has one son under age 10. The remaining sons of Daniel still living at home should be Gideon who later moved to Rockingham, Co., NC and Daniel, Jr. who married Lucy Milam and later moved to Tennessee.   William is gone without a trace unless we assume that he is William of Cumberland Co., N.C.

1810 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

By 1810, George, Jr. appears again and William (son of George born in 1778) has now married but has no male children. Henry (son of Daniel) is the only member of Daniel's family still in Warren Co. and he has 3 young sons.  We know that 2 of these sons are Daniel and Henry.  The third is possibly Zachariah born in 1802 which we have previously named as a son of Daniel (3) but now believe may be a son of Henry and therefore a grandson of Daniel (3).   However, as shown on the 1820 census, Henry is shown with only 2 sons who probably represent Daniel and Henry while Daniel (3) is shown in Guilford Co., NC with a son under the age of 5 which probably is Zachariah.

1820 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

William now has 2 sons under 10 (born 1810-1820) and one son between 16 & 26 (probably closer to 16) meaning born by 1804. Henry also has 1 son under 10 and 1 son between 10 and 16. Henry died in 1822 as reflected by Estate records in Warren Co., NC.  The youngest son of Henry, Gideon Pegram, who later moved to Kentucky, may have been born after the 1820 Census.   Based on best available information the 2 sons shown here are probably Daniel and Henry. William is shown to have 2 sons.  One of these would be Allen who is shown on the 1850 Census as age 32.

1830 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

The 1830 census record shows that Thomas W. Pegram (who we know is a son of George Pegram, Jr.) is now married but does not yet have male sons. This agrees with the known record. William (son of George) is now shown as being between 50 and 60 which agrees with his known birth date of 1778 and he has one son between the age of 10 and 15. Apparently one son of William has died since the only son known to have reached maturity and married is Allen.  The above record for Henry probably represents Henry and Daniel, both sons of Henry, deceased based on the ages as shown.  We do not know where Henry, Sr.'s son Gideon is at this time but he would be very young and could be with other family members.  Martha that is shown is one of 3 unmarried daughters of George. The male shown living with Martha would be John L., son of Thomas and grandson of George, Sr. It is the later division of their estate that helps establish other relationships.

1840 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C.

The only unknown on the 1840 census is the identity of  the elderly male living with Daniel, son of Henry.  At one point we thought this might be his father, Daniel, but other records indicate that Daniel(3) died in Warren Co., NC in 1827.  It is also possible that this is simply an error since the age of Daniel appears to be in error.  Clarissa as shown here is the widow of George Pegram, Jr.

1850 FEDERAL CENSUS - WARREN CO., N.C. Page 61

By 1850, the only Pegrams remaining in Warren Co. are the descendants of George Pegram, Sr.
