120. Charles Jackson EGERTON was born on 11 Jun 1816 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died on 26 May 1880 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He was buried in Family Cem."Horseshoe Bend", NC. When Jackson Egerton and"Little Mary" were married (he was 19 a nd she was 16) they went to her "Rich Uncle Peter" - Peter Rando lph Davis and borrowed $2,000 to purchase a farm. Each year whe n the crops were sold they took the payment to Uncle Peter. Whe n they took the last payment, instead of the mortgage papers, P eter handed them back the entire amount saying that he intende d to give them the farm in the first place but thought they woul d appreciate it more if they earned it themselves and he beleive d they could do it. The farm was called "The Horseshoe Bend" an d was located four miles south of Louisburg on the Tar River.
In the 1850 Census Marthy DAVIS age 19 and Joseph JENKINS age 2 4 were listed in the household.

He was married to Mary Turner PITCHFORD on 16 Dec 1835 in Warren Co., NC. Mary Turner PITCHFORD was born on 28 Aug 1819 in Warren Co., NC. She died on 13 Mar 1889 in Warren Co., NC. She was buried in Family Cem."Horseshoe Bend", NC. She was educated The White House School. When "Little Mary" was a child their Rich Uncle Peter was comin g for a visit. After helping with the cleaning and polishing o f the house Mary arranged her collection of dolls on a mantle ov er a fireplace hoping Uncle Peter would notice and take the hin t that they were all "rag dolls" and maybe he would give her a r eal doll. Uncle Peter did notice and remarked to Mary that she s howed pride in taking care of her dolls. Mary was disappointed t hat he did not mention a real doll but said nothing. A few day s later a special messenger came to the house with a package fo r Lillle Mary Pitchford. In it was the finest doll then made i n France. Charles Jackson EGERTON and Mary Turner PITCHFORD had the following children:

218 iii. Rufus Turner EGERTON was born in 1843 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died in 1862. During Civil War contracted typhoid fever, walked home from batt lefront, and after a long illness, he died.
219 iv. Sidney G. EGERTON was born in 1846 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died in 1862. During Civil War he died of typohoid fever.

223 viii. Annie EGERTON was born about 1854 in Franklin County, North Carolina. She died about 1855.
224 ix. William R. EGERTON was born in 1855 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died in 1885. He was killed when thrown from a buggy by a runaway horse.
