2. John HARTON (1) was born in 1760 in Warren County, North Carolina. He died in 1794 in Warren County, North Carolina.
John was witness to the will of Thomas Bell, his uncle, 26 May 1782--Warren Co., Will Book 3. along with John Colclough, Jesse Bell, and Daniel Pegram
In Deed Book 12, p 287 there is a record of John Harton buying land from Mary Bell and later getting clearance from Montfort Bell, son of Thomas Bell, Jr. The date was Jan 1793 and the record shows Mary Bell, Thomas Bell, John Bell, William Bell, and Montfort Bell selling 200 acres to John Harton for 72 pounds VA money. Land willed to said Bells by Thomas Bell dec'd, lying on Hubquarter's Creek.. Beginning at the mouth of Plant Patch branch thence up the sd branch to a hickory, John Harton's cornerthence to Henry Jones;s line then to branch called barn branch, thence down the sd branch to the creek then up the creek to the mouth of plant patch branch the beginning being the land whereon the sd Thos Bell decd formerly lived. Witnessed by Geo Nicholson, Burwell Harton and Gideon Pegram. ( This land adjoined the land Sarah (Salley) Pegram was willed by her father Daniel.)

29 Aug 1804 John Harton, orphan of John Harton aged about 13 to be apprenticed to Gideon Pegram till age 21.(p 243 Book 12) On 244 Thomas was also apprenticed to Gideon to "learn the art of being a planter" He was 11.
p 327 of Book 13 Gideon aged 18 the 21 of April next apprenticed to John Sims of Warren Co to stay until age 21 "art of using tools and also to teach him to read and write."

He was married to Sarah PEGRAM (daughter of Daniel PEGRAM and Frances MACON) on 9 Nov 1780 in Warren County, North Carolina. Sarah PEGRAM (1) was born in 1760 in Warren County, North Carolina. She died in 1800 in Warren County, North Carolina. John HARTON and Sarah PEGRAM had the following children:
