I lend to my beloved wife Elizabeth during her widowhood, the whole of my property both real and personal, whether it being possesion or action, for the support of herself and family and for the education and maintainance of my children by her. And it is my will and desire, that she may be authorized and I do hereby authorize her to have entire control over the same by selling any part she may please and also in purchasing any she may choose. But, this authority is not intended to empower her to give away to any of my children, any part of my property save in the way of advancement to them in part of their portions, to which they may be entitled in the general distribution of my estate.

I desire that my daughters may be educated out of the general fund of my estate and clothed likewise, without any charge being made against them for the same.

I desire that my sons may be educated in and qualified for one of the two liberal professions viz. law or medicine, leaving my said wife to select either of said professions for each of my said sons as she may think fit. But, I desire that the general funds of my estate should bear the burden only of completing their academical and not their collegiate or professional education. For I desire that the expenses of their collegiate and professional education should be deducted from the portion or portions of my estate to which such son or sons may be entitled in the general distribution.

If my beloved wife should marry after my death, I will and desire that one third of my lands and negroes may be assigned her for and during her natural life. And I declare this bequest to be in lieu of her dowers in my estate.

I hereby appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth executrixes of this my last will and testament and I do desire that she should give no security for the same.

If my said wife Elizabeth should marry, it is then my will and desire that so soon as she marries, that my friend Gen. John Pegram, and I do hereby authorize him, to become executor of this my last will and testament in conjunction with my wife as executrixes.

I desire that an inventory may be taken, and appraisement made of my estate. In witness of all which I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 15th day of Feburary 1826. Francis Gregory SS (seal) Witness John Pegram C. Still Thomas Field

Bond was set at 2000. pounds. At the same time, it was ordered that William Eppes, his former guardian should be summoned to next court to render his account.

The following information on the Mexican War service of John T. 101. Martha (Patsy) Pegram (John , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born about 1776 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. She died in Uniontown, Perry Co., Alabama.

Martha married Stanfield Coleman son of Williamson Coleman and Mildred Hardaway before 1810 in probably Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. Stanfield was born about 1776 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. He died before 1820.

They had the following children:

457 M i John George Pegram Coleman was born on 3 Feb 1811. He died on 11 Jul 1871.

102. John Pegram 1 (John , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born on 13 Apr 1785 in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. He died on 3 Jul 1864 in "Woodlawn", Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.

He is shown as age 65 on the 1850 Census of Dinwiddie Co., Va. living with his wife Martha, age 55 and son, Oscar, age 19. His occupation is given as tobacco inspector.

John married (1) Ann (Nancy) Scott daughter of Peter Scott and Rebekah Pegram. Ann was born in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.

John married (2) Martha Goodwyn 1, 2 daughter of Esau Goodwyn and Martha Coleson Tucker on 7 Feb 1822 in Greenville Co., Virginia. Martha was born on 17 Sep 1794 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. She died on 29 Oct 1863.

In an article on the Goodwyn family published in the William and Mary Quarterly in 1897 we find the following:

"Esau Goodwyn (Joseph, Thomas) was born in Dinwiddie; was married to S. Sturdivant. By occupation he was a planter. They resided in Greensville county, Va. Children:(*) i. Keziah, married William Boisseau; ii. Martha, married John Pegram.

(*) It is asserted that Esau had no children. The two given here are on the
authority of Dr. John William Goodwyn, of Macon, Ga. "

There seems to be no doubt about the children of Esau and Martha Tucker Goodwyn. The will of her brother, Hartwell Tucker leaves a bequest to neices Martha Pegram and Kissia Boisseau, daughters of sister Martha Goodwyn, decd.

They had the following children:

458 M i Edward Oscar Esau Pegram was born on 17 Sep 1830. He died on 21 May 1889.

105. William F. Woodward 1, 2 (Elizabeth Pegram , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born on 31 Oct 1769 in Petersburg, Independant City, Virginia. He died on 30 Sep 1843 in Belfast, Marshall Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Petersburg, Lincoln Co., Tennessee.

He left a will dated November 1839 and probated November 1843 naming his children.

The cemetery is located S.side of Elk Ridge, right on Liberty Valley Rd., 5 1/2 mi. E. of Belfast. Marshall Co. Tennessee.

Other sources have said he was buried in the Woodward family cemetery in Marshall Co., Tennessee but finding the reference to the actual tombstone inscription would seem to dispute this.

William married Nancy Mayes 1 about 1790 in Nottoway Co., Virginia. Nancy was born 2 in 1766 in Petersburg, Independant City, Virginia. She died on 30 Aug 1865 in Barbour Co., Alabama. She was buried in Petersburg, Lincoln Co., Tennessee.

Living with Nancy in 1850 are Elizabeth age 37 and Nancy age 25. We would be inclinded to say that Nancy is too young to be her daughter but she is named in her father's Will. It is possible her age is wrong on the 1850 census..

She is shown as age 78 on the 1850 census of Marshall Co., Tennessee.

They had the following children:

459 F i Rebecca Woodward was born on 4 Oct 1791. She died on 5 Mar 1855.
460 M ii Gorman (Jarman) Woodward was born on 25 Mar 1794. He died on 14 Mar 1860.

465 F vii Martha G. Woodward.
466 F viii Nancy Woodward was born 1, 2 in 1825 in Tennessee.

She was nmarried in 1839 when her father made his will. In 1860 she was found living with her sister, Lucy Woodward Sandifer. It is clear that Nancy could not be the biological child of Nancy Mayes Woodward but she is shown here since she is listed as a child in her father's will.
