She worked at Wesley Long Hospital and Piedmont Hospital in Greensboro and Halifax General Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was born to Lillian Mae Albertson and William Glenn Huffine on May 14, 1925, in High Point.
During World War II, she worked for the War Department in the Demobilized Records Division in High Point, Following the war, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from High Point University in 1952, and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina in 1961. She began her 31-year teaching career in Chatham County, followed by six years at Summerfield School in Summerfield. She was employed by the Greensboro Public School System for 28 years, many of those years teaching first grade at General Greene Elementary School. Additionally, she served as organist and choir director at Summerfield United Methodist Church for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Vance Pegram of the home; her beloved daughter, LeAnn Pegram Kanoy and son-in-law Keith Kanoy of Winston-Salem; three granddogs, Lillie, Lucius and Greta; three grandcats, Ataya, Jasper and Moses; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews very dear to her.10289 F viii Jacquelyn Faith Pegram was born 1, 2 on 12 Jul 1927 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

Mrs. Lula Smitherman Pegram, 101, of Wesleyan-Arms Manor, and formerly of 507 Ferndale Drive, died Jan. 19, 1997, at the High Point Regional Hospital. The funeral will be in the High Point Friends Meeting House 11 a.m. Wednesday, officiated by Dr. David Kingrey and the Rev. Victor Murchison. Internment will be in the Meeting House Columbarium. Mrs. Pegram was born in East Bend on July 4, 1895, a daughter of William A. and Sarah Melinda Joyner Smitherman. She was married to R. B. Pegram, who died June 1, 1991.. She and her family moved from North Carolina to Mooresville, Indiana, then later to Haviland, Kansas, where she graduated from Friends Academy. She was an alumna of Friends University, Wichita, Kansas; Indiana State Normal, Tera Haute, Indiana; Mrs. Baker's Teacher's College, Indianapolis, Indiana; Woman's College, UNC, Greensboro; and Asheville State Normal, Asheville. She taught school in Mooresville, Indiana, and for a period in Aurora, Colorado, in a one room school house, where she taught all grades. She returned to North Carolina in the early 1900's to teach in the High Point City School system. She was a member of the High Point Central Friends Church, where she was active in the Elizabeth Frye class, and the Elizabeth Sykes circle. She taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the High Point Little Theatre and was a former member of the High Point Woman's Club. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Lee Beck of Orlando, F la., Mrs. Dorothy Faye Culler of High Point, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Walker of Burlington, and Mrs. Betty Jean Herring of Boulder, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
