James Robert, one of the most prominent and best known members of the family in North Carolina, was born in Chatham Co., North Carolina. He was educated at Trinity College and, after teaching and farming, entered the real estate business in Sanford, North Carolina. He was elected to the North Carolina Legislature in 1905, he became a member of the State Senate in 1907. The following year he moved to Lee county where he became a member of the county court. He was a leader of the Methodist Church in Sanford,

2537. Frances (Fannie) Harris Headen 1 (Mary Edwards Rives , Edwards Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 2 in Sep 1864 in Chatham Co., North Carolina. She died 3 on 7 Feb 1917 in Chapel Hill, Orange Co., North Carolina.
Fannie and their daughter, Mary Louise, died in the Great Flu Epidemic. R. L. could no longer live at "Plum Nelly", so he built a substantial house, current 741 East Franklin Street, into which he and his youngest daughter, Elizabeth, relocated. It had the first central heat in town, complete with a control button at the the head of R. L.'s bed. The street, which winds out of Chapel Hill in the direction of Durham, was once known as "Strowd Hill". The house is in good repair. In the early 1920's he traveled by train from North Carolina down into the deep southern states and then across to Texas. He sent articles to the Chapel Hill newspaper describing the vastness of the King Ranch and of seeing the Mexican cowboys roping the fat cattle, and of crossing the Rio Grande into Matamoras, Mexico, where he saw humble homes, a pig standing in one doorway, "with as much dignity as if it were a maid or a butler". He sent a photograph of himself holding a rifle and a string of freshly shot ducks. He was wearing a suit, a white standup starched collar, and a hat. They say that in Chapel Hill townsfolk could set their watches by his 4:PM rides through the village, a chauffer at the wheel. R. L. was a Methodist, a Mason, and an Elk.
Frances married 4 Robert Lee Strowd 1, 2, 3 son of William Franklin Strowd and Lois (Laura) Atwater on 27 Apr 1886 in North Carolina. Robert was born in Feb 1864 in Chapel Hill, Orange Co., North Carolina. He died in 1934 in Chapel Hill, Orange Co., North Carolina.
The 1900 Census of Orange Co., North Carolina shows him listed as Robert R. Stroud. Living with him are his mother and father. The census shows his parents have been married for 39 years. They have had 2 children with 1 living. Robert and Fannie have been married for 14 years and have had 5 children, all living.
Robert Lee Strowd was the only survivng child of Buck and Lou Strowd. He and his wife, Fannie Harris Headen lived on 1,000 acres which R. L.'s father had given them. The old house is still standing, once called "Plum Nelly" because it was "plum" out of Chapel Hill and nearly to Durham, surrounded by houses. It once had a handsome gazebo on the back lawn. The area has been known as Davie Circle for some time. R. L. was a merchant in Chapel Hill, occupying his own building which still bears the name The Strowd Building on the brickwork. He was Vice president of the Bank of Chapel Hill and also postmaster for a while.

Wallace received his doctorate in chemistry, and was a chemist for the Iron and Steel Company of Birmingham, Alabama, worked with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and was the Chief Chemist the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. He became the Executive Secretary of the Milling Association in Nashville, Tennessee. He produced a formula for enriching white bread with vitamin B1 and calcium.Wallace married Lorraine Spencer. Lorraine was born in Wisconsin. 7199 M iii Bruce Strowd was born on 18 Aug 1891. He died on 16 Dec 1955. 7200 F iv Mary Louise Strowd 1 was born 2, 3 on 2 Aug 1895 in Orange Co., California. Dr. William Edwards Headen played on first UNC football team, 1888. He received his medical degree at the University of Maryland and practiced in Chapel Hill. His wife died and he and his young daughter Bessie moved to Morehead City. He married Mary Clyde Bell in Morehead City on 6 November, 1901. Dr. Headen built a handsome house at 806 Arendell Street, Morehead City, and carried on his medical practice by means of horse and buggy as well as sailboat. Their daughter, Ola Bell, married L. J. Norris. Their son, Dr. L. J. Headen, is a retired Morehead City physcian.
William married (1) Grace Hinkle. Grace was born in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland.
William married (2) Mary Bell. Mary was born in Morehead City, Carteret Co., North Carolina.

Dr. Rieves (Rives) attended Dalton School, was graduated from the Louisville Medical College in 1891, and later took post-graduate courses in Richmond, Virginia and Polyclinic in New York. He practiced medicine for 10 years in Julian, North Carolina until he moved to Greensboro in 1901 where he was appointed city physician in 1917.
Apparently his first wife died shortly after the birth of their second child. The 1900 census shows he has been re-married for 5 years and the couple have had 3 children, all living.
James married (1) Lettie C. Hardin in 1890. Lettie was born 1 in Jan 1874 in Chatham Co., North Carolina.

William married Laura Virginia Scales on 19 Nov 1851 in Virginia. Laura was born 1, 2 about 1835 in Tennessee.
We can not confirm that Laura who is shown as his wife on the 1860 and 1880 census is the same person as Virginia Scales as shown by family records.
