"Stokesdale -- Developers have begun work on Arbor Run, a northwest Guilford County community of custom homes planned for 220 acres of farmland that had been in the same family more than 200 years.
Those homes will be going up on land that Raymond Pegram's family has farmed since 1791 when great-great grandfather Edward Pegram married Pathenia Jean. Marie married Newton Eugene Whicker 1 son of John Elijah Whicker and Augusta Elizabeth Pegram on 31 Dec 1948. Newton was born 2, 3 on 15 Mar 1920 in Belews Creek, Forsyth Co., North Carolina. He died on 26 Oct 1995 in Kernersville, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.
His obituary from the Greensboro New and Records includes the following: Mr. Newton Eugene Whicker, 75, of 2800 Piney Grove Road died Thursday, Oct. 26, 1995, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Forsyth County to the late John E. and Augusta Pegram Whicker. He graduated from Walkertown School and Draughn's Business College. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and treasurer. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II from 1942-1945, a retiree of Brendles and an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Alma W. Murray and Reba W. Beeson. Surviving are his wife, Marie Holt Whicker of the home; son, Ronald E. Whicker Sr. and wife, Susan of Greenville; daughter, Wanda W. Smoot and husband, Keith of Kernersville; grandchildren, Ronald Whicker Jr., Elizabeth Smoot and Katie Smoot; sisters, Beulah W. Smith of Winston-Salem, Clara W. Dwiggins of Kernersville; and brother, James A. Whicker of Kernersville. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Goodwill Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville.

Mrs. Peggy Holt Schwebs Waddell, 65, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Rex Hospital. Mrs. Waddell was a former resident of Raleigh and Greensboro. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Vestal and the Rev. Tim Bailey. Interment will be in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stokesdale. She was born on May 25, 1933 in Guilford County, to the late Emmett and Geneva Pegram Holt. Mrs. Waddell retired from IBM and then was employed at Balentine's Cafeteria in Cameron Village for several years. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy H. Waddell of Centre, Ala.; sons, Tim Tuttle of Raleigh and Kent Schwebs of Raleigh; step-son, Jimmy H. Waddell, Jr. of Indianola, Okla.; daughter, Melinda Tuttle of Raleigh; brothers, Paul Holt of Browns Summit, Bobby Holt of Galax, Va. and Roy Holt of Winston-Salem; sisters, Marie Whicker of Kernersville, Ann Doss of Lexington and Frances Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Sterling Tuttle and Ryan Sykes.
Peggy married (1) Jimmy H. Waddell.

The family account is in conflict with the 1920 census of Cheatham Co., Tennessee which shows his age as 46 and his name as John L.
