He was a minister with the M.E. Church South for 47 years.

Note that the names of the children agree with those given by W. K. Matthews with the exception that he listed "Freddie" as a female. Living next door on the 1870 Census is a Walter or Walker Rowlett also born in Tennessee. We have not shown him simply because we have nothing to prove that he is the brother listed as William in W. K. Matthews book. However, we find no William Rowlett listed on the 1870 Census who could be the right age to be the third child of John W. Rowlett and Lucy Ann Matthews.
Other souces have shown him only as Albert and given Texas as his birth place. Since both he and his sister, Mary J. Rowlett, are found living with their grandparents in Williamson Co., Tennessee in 1850, it seems clear they were not born in Texas.
Benjamin married Mary about 1856. Mary was born 1 about 1836 in Tennessee.
It is possible she was either a Stone or a Pool, being the other family names found with Teressa on the 1880 Census.

She is found in Nacogdoches Co., Texas in 1880 living in the home of Samuel Stone where she is identified as "niece", age 14. We are unable to determine what the true relationship is but there are apparently no other family members in town.11344 M iv Frederick Rowlett was born 1 about 1869 in Louisiana.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 6 years and have no children.
