Descendants of George Pegram
Sixth Generation
(Continued)

346. Jane D. Harton (John P. Harton , Sarah Pegram , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2 about 1828 in Tennessee.

At the time of the 1850 Census she was still single and living with her sister in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi

Jane married William Weaver on 8 Dec 1853 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas. William was born 1 about 1834 in Tennessee.

They had the following children:

1498 M i Joseph C. Weaver was born 1 in 1854 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.
1499 M ii William F. Weaver was born 1 in 1856 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.
1500 M iii Daniel Weaver was born 1 in 1858 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.
1501 M iv Harris Weaver was born 1 in 1858 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.

347. Henry David (Daniel) Pegram 1, 2 (Daniel , William S. , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born on 23 Jun 1796 in Petersburg, Independant City, Virginia. He died on 1 Feb 1844 in Mobile, Mobile Co., Alabama.

He served in the War of 1812 and his widow apparently received a pension. Abstracts from the John K. Martin Papers, War of 1812 shows a number of letters written by Orlando Pegram and Czorilda Brandt regarding "mother's pension".

His obituary notice published in "Watchman of the South" in March 1844 says he was age 48 at the time of his death.

The notice of his death was published in the Richmond Enquirer on Mar. 1, 1844.

Henry married 2 Cecelia Fendall Bell 1 daughter of Unknown Bell and Ann on 10 Aug 1815 in Hanover, Virginia. Cecelia was born 3 on 10 Mar 1797 in Louisa Co., Virginia. She died on 31 Jul 1880 in Richmond, Henrico Co., Virginia. She was buried in Schochoe Hill Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.

She was still living at the time of the 1880 Census. She was in the home of her daughter, Czorilda who is listed on the census as Lorilda A. Brandt.

They had the following children:

1502 F i Czorina Emeline Pegram 1 was born on 30 Dec 1816 in Richmond, Henrico Co., Virginia. She died on 30 Apr 1893.
Czorina married John B. Smith on 3 May 1831 in Henrico Co., Virginia. John was born 1 in 1809 in Henrico Co., Virginia.

They do not appear to have had any children. The 1850 Census of Henrico Co., Virginia shows John B. Smith, age 41 and his wife Czorina, age 32 (obviously incorrect). His occupation is given as "grocer".
1503 F ii Czorilda Adeline Pegram was born on 24 Dec 1818. She died on 14 Jan 1897.
1504 F iii Henrietta Louisa Pegram was born on 10 Oct 1820 in Richmond, Henrico Co., Virginia.

Maria married John Micklam 1 son of John Micklam and Ann Goulds on 13 Jun 1821 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. John was born 2 on 7 Apr 1796 in London, England.

The following is from History of Menard & Mason Counties, published by O.L. Baskin & Co., Historical Publishers, Chicago, 1879.

JOHN MICKLAM, farmer; P. O. Kilbourne. "Uncle Johnnie," as he is familiarly called, first saw the light of day in the city of London April 7, 1796, and is now in his 84th year; he has seen many of the "notable" and crowned heads of Europe, George III and IV-the Queen's father, Alexander I and Old Blucher, and many others, and can relate very many interesting things, of which he was an eye-witness, that are now matters of history. John was the eldest of a family of eight children born to John Micklam and Ann Goulds. Feb. 17, 1819, he emigrated to this country, landing at Norfolk, Va.; thence to Petersburg, where he was engaged as a dealer in tobacco and lived about three years; he has now in his possession several bills of lading and invoices of goods (seen by the writer) in the quaint handwriting of that time, showing the character of the business done.

Subsequently to this, he engaged in growing tobacco. In early life, he learned the tobacco business with his father. While in Virginia, he saw the first steamboat that ever sailed on the James River, a rude affair, with a hulk like a canal boat, and an engine with upright arms working vertically. In 1827; he emigrated to Kentucky and Tennessee, and remained until 1836, when he came to Bluffdale, Greene Co., this State, and remained there until 1845; he then came to Mason Co., and has since lived here. June 13, 1821, he married Maria Pegram in Dinwiddie Co., Va.; they have had eight children-John W., Martha A., Indiana M., Mary D., Charles E., Stanfield A., Sophia and Harriet M. Mr. Micklam has always been a very temperate man, and was never drunk in his life, and is a man of excellent information, a great reader, and a true type of an old English "gentleman."

In 1880, he is found in Mason Co., Illinois, living with the family ofThomas Conklin who married Mary C. Hardin.

They had the following children:

1509 M i John W. Micklam was born on 24 Nov 1822. He died on 10 Jul 1888.
1510 F ii Martha Anyoletta Micklam was born in 1825.
1511 F iii Indiana Hilden Micklam was born 1 on 13 Dec 1830. She died 2 on 23 Jun 1858 in Mason Co., Illinois.
Indiana married Charles Stuart Thompson on 28 Mar 1848 in Mason Co., Illinois. Charles was born 1 in Feb 1826 in Ireland. He died 2 on 22 Mar 1875 in Mason Co., Illinois. He was buried in Pratt Cemetery, Mason Co., Illinois.
  1512 M iv Charles Micklam.

This is possibly the Charles Micklam who died in Portland, Oregon in 22 Nov.1935. There is also a Fannie Micklam, perhaps his wife, who died in Portland, Oregon in 9 Mar. 1932.
  1513 F v Mary D. (Mirah) Micklam.
  1514 F vi Harriet Micklam.
  1515 F vii Sophia Micklam.
1516 M viii Stanfield Micklam was born in Oct 1835. He died in 1913.

351. Mildred Pegram (William Baker , William S. , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3 in 1804 in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.

The 1850 Census shows her to be 40 years old which is in conflict with other sources.

Mildred married 1 Lucian Miner Seay in 1836 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. Lucian was born 2, 3 in 1811 in Virginia.

They had the following children:

  1517 F i Harriet Seay 1 was born 2 on 25 Dec 1838 in Kentucky.

In 1850 she is found living with her uncle, Augustus Pegram in Greene Co., Illinois. The 1850 census shows she was born in Kentucky. We can only assume her parents and sister Mary have died since we have not found them anywhere on the 1850 census.

Family sources have given her place of birth as Kentucky but the 1850 Census shows she was born in Tennessee.
Harriet married 1 William Taylor on 19 Mar 1856 in Mason Co., Illinois. William was born in Burbon Co., Kentucky.
1518 F ii Mary Jane Seay was born 1 on 23 Mar 1841 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

352. Jane Coleman Pegram 1, 2 (William Baker , William S. , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 3 on 19 Jul 1809 in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. She died 4 on 16 Nov 1878 in Tennessee.

Jane married Phillip Whitehead Greenhill 1 son of Samuel Greenhill and Mary Pettiway (Petway) on 22 Feb 1826. Phillip was born 2 on 26 Dec 1796 in Virginia. He died 3 on 12 Apr 1865 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Liberty Church in Montgomery Co. Tennessee.

We are indebed to Deanna Oklepek, a Greenhill descendant, for numerous additions and corrections to our Greenhill genealogy. Deanna has the information contained in the Phillip Whitehead Greenhill family Bible which she has kindly shared.

One of the earliest records found for Philip W. Greenhill in Montgomery Co. is a deed recorded in Montgomery Co. Record Book W (1845-1847), page 272-273, where Philip purchases land from Drury Ross on February 17, 1846.

This family is shown in the 1850 Census of Montgomery Co. Tennessee as well as in the Family Bible of Philip W. Greenhill, on file with the Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville.

They had the following children:

1519 M i Alexander Leonidas Winfield Greenhill was born on 7 Feb 1827. He died on 24 Oct 1893.

1529 F xi Ann Louisa Greenhill was born on 15 Apr 1850. She died on 9 Aug 1925.

354. Daniel Ethelbert Pegram 1, 2, 3 (William Baker , William S. , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 4, 5, 6, 7 about 1814 in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.

In 1840 Daniel Ethelbert is found in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. According to the census the couple do not yet have any children. By 1880 the older children have married leaving only Virginia and Mary at home.

Daniel married Elvira (Elvia) Vaughan daughter of Joshua P. Vaughan and Mary. Elvira was born 1, 2, 3, 4 about 1817 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

While some sources have given her place of birth as Tennessee, on the 1900 Census, her son, James E. Pegram, show his mother was born in North Carolina.

They had the following children:

1530 F i Martha Frances Pegram was born 1, 2 about 1840 in probably Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

On the 1850 Census she is shown as being 12 years old so she could have been born in 1837 or 1838.
Martha married 1 G. W. Anderson on 3 Apr 1863 in McCracken Co., Kentucky. G. W. Anderson was born 2 about 1837 in Tennessee.

There is a George Pegram, age 15, birth place Illinois, living in the home in 1870 who we have not yet placed.

Augustin married 1 (1) Sarah Jane Edwins on 31 May 1846 in Greene Co., Illinois. Sarah was born about 1828 in Illinois. She died on 15 Jan 1852.

They had the following children:

1536 M ii Hardin Pegram was born on 23 Mar 1847. He died before 1890.
1537 F iii Elizabeth Pegram was born about 1849 in Greene Co., Illinois.

Augustin married 1 (2) Melissa Henshaw on 15 Feb 1859 in Mason Co., Illinois. Melissa was born 2, 3 about 1834 in Tennessee.

Marriage record spells her name as Hershaw.

They had the following children:

1538 M iv Charles Pegram was born 1, 2 in Nov 1864 in Illinois. He died on 17 Apr 1930 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 5 years and have had no children.

In 1850 he was living in Greenwood, Caddo Parrish, Louisiana close to his brother William A. They may have been in business together since both show their occupation as merchant.

James married Myra I. (Mira) Hughes on 24 Apr 1848 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Myra was born about 1824 in Tennessee.

They had the following children:

1541 M i James William Pegram 1 was born on 13 Jan 1852 in Louisiana. He died on 29 Feb 1896. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.

He entered VMI on Sept. 22, 1870 but was dismissed Nov. 1, 1870 for breaking curfew. He became a merchant in Louisiana. He never married and had no children.

359. William A. Pegram 1, 2 (William Baker , William S. , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born on 21 Nov 1828 in Cedar Green, Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.

The 1850 Census show him to be 40 years old which would make his birthdate 1810. The 1870 Census shows him to be 63 years old which is different from family records showing his birthdate as 1828. We can only assume that family sources showing his birthdate as 21 Nov. 1828 is perhaps years off. This needs to be verified from other sources. In 1850, he was in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.

William married Elizabeth Ann (Betsey) Stephenson 1, 2 daughter of Obediah Martin (Maclin) Stephenson and Louisa (Eliza) Walker on 1 Nov 1849 in Harrison Co., Texas. Elizabeth was born about 1828 in South Carolina. She died before 1870.

Mary married 4 Isham Matthews 1, 2, 3 son of Luke Mathews and Lucy Fox on 25 Nov 1805 in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia. Isham was born 5, 6 on 2 Apr 1782 in Brunswick Co., Virginia. He died 7 on 27 Mar 1862. He was buried in on the family farm near Arrington in Williamson Co., Tennessee.

The primary source for the descendants of Isham Matthews and Mary Baker Sim is the book: "Luke Matthews of Brunswick Co., Virginia 1739 - 1788 and His Descendants" by William Kennon Matthews (nd), printed in Kobe, Japan. It was a small printing, limited to 320 copies. Unless otherwise noted, all descendants shown are based on his work.
