He died ⁴ on 21 Nov 1937 in Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma. He was buried ⁵ in Frisco Cemetery, Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma.

He was educated in private academies in Tenn. and tutored by his father, James Dandridge Rives, Sr. He graduated in East Central State College, Ada, Oklahoma. He held to aching certificates from Tennessee and Oklahoma and was qualified to teach all subjects offered in Oklahoma before 1914 in many teaching fields. Forty years actual, as Principal and Superitendent; taught in Public Schools in Tenn. and Indian Academies in Oklahoma, and also in many Oklahoma schools, including Ada, Oklahoma. He retired from teaching in 1928. In politics he was a Republican, and religion, a Baptist; Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and choir director. In fraternities, he was a Woodman of the World. He wrote a short story; "A Ferryman's Daughter", published and sold. He was also was writing Oklahoma History which was unfinished at time of his death. He was also author of some songs and short stories that were published.

Henry married Ida Carleton daughter of Joe Bratton Carleton and Sue Moses on 1 Apr 1896 in McGee, Indian Territory, Oklahoma.. Ida was born ¹ on 25 Nov 1881. She died ² on 5 Dec 1948 in Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma. She was buried ³ in Frisco Cemetery, Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma.

James Dandridge Rives was born at Hollow Rock, Tennessee, and was graduated from Terrell College in 1898. For several years he was a teacher in schools and colleges in his native state. He later made his home at Holdenville, Oklahoma, where he was active in Democratic politics, having served on various county and state committees, and as mayor of Holdenville, 1918-1925.

James married Mattie Avant.

She was the adopted daughter of Dr. Alvin and Addie Avant.
