Kernersville - Mrs. Margie Pegram Hester, 82, of Reidsville Road died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hester was born in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late Alvin W. and Sudie Dwiggins Pegram, and was a member of the Goodwill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tucker Andrew Hester, brother Walter Pegram and sister Dorothy Fulton. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Jo Parrish, and a son, Mike Hester and his wife Ann, all of Kernersville; grandchildren and their spouses Jeff and Ginger Parrish, Jill and Landon Potts, Nena and Jason Eller, Jason Hester and Travis Hester; great-grandchildren Cody Parrish, Katie Parrish, Sophie Potts, Ashley Hester and Jessica Hester; a sister, Mildred "Mick" Linville of Walnut Cove; and a brother, Donald Pegram of Kernersville. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Mervin Garrison.

Margie married Tucker Andrew Hester ¹ son of Moses Andrew Hester and Nancy Jane Pegram. Tucker was born ^{2, 3} on 3 Aug 1915 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina. He died ⁴ on 8 Jun 1980 in Kernersville, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.

His obituary from the Aug. 2, 1990 edition of the Greensboro New & Record reads in part as follows:

Alvin Walter "Walt" Pegram, 65, of 6265 Reidsville Road died Wednesday at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Funeral will be at ... Goodwill Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Forsyth County, he was a founding partner of Pegram Brothers Meat Packaging Company and owner of Sherwood Barbecue in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are wife, Lois Fulton Pegram; daughter, Mrs. Faye Phelps of Kernersville; son, Ronald Walter Pegram of Winston-Salem; sisters, Mrs. Margie Hester, Mrs. Mildred Linville, both of Kernersville; brother, Donald H. Pegram of Kernersville; two grandchildren.

Alvin married Ruby Lois Fulton daughter of William Fulton and Ruby Smith on 1 Aug 1944 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina. Ruby was born ¹ on 28 Jun 1923 in Stokes Co., North Carolina. She died ² on 21 Jul 2004 in Kernersville, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.

Her obituary reads in part as follows:

Kernersville - Mrs. Ruby Lois Fulton Pegram, 81, of Reidsville Road died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 28, 1923, in Stokes County, a daughter of the late William and Ruby Smith Fulton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Walter Pegram. Mrs. Pegram was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church for more than 65 years and sang alto in the choir for 50 years. She and her late husband were former owners of Sherwood Bar B Q for 20 years. There she ran the cash register, took orders and made many friends. Many remember her as "Mama Lois." Her homemade potato salad was a staple at catered events. Surviving are a daughter, Faye Phelps and husband Jack; a son, Ron Pegram and wife Jackie; three grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jackie Phelps and Krystal Pegram Weiss and husband Matt; a brother, Bill Fulton; and a sister, Mildred Newman. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today, July 22, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel in Kernersville by the Rev. Mervin Garrison.

Within minutes, an explosive roar will erupt from the 43 brightly colored stock cars that line pit road, awaiting the start of the Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400. By now, the drivers have been introduced to the crowd. They stand beside their cars with wives and crew members savoring the last sacred moments before the command is given: ``Gentlemen, start your engines.'' Moving up the row of cars toward turn one, Ron Pegram runs a race against time. As he darts from car to car, heads bow, hands rest on shoulders and for a minute or so, drivers and crews pause to pray with him. None of the 43 refuses. Strapped inside his black Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt bows his head toward the steering wheel while Pegram, a chaplain with Motor Racing Outreach, prays with the seven-time Winston Cup champion. Unlike most sports, auto racing poses a life-and-death challenge to its competitors, who engage in the high-speed thrill of crunching steel and careening off concrete walls on weekends. ``Our purpose is to bring the life of Christ to the particular community and to help provide as much as possible the aspects of a normal life,'' Pegram said. ``We're trying to meet needs wherever we find them and that includes dealing with death and trauma.'' For a decade, the ministry, headquartered in the heart of racing country at Charlotte Motor Speedway, has done just that..."
