1659. Virginia Pegram (George Herbert , John , Edward , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 1 in 1843 in New Jersey. She died on 18 Apr 1875.

Notice of her death from the New York Evening Post gives her death date as April 18, 1875.

Virginia married 1 Richard Wade Bleecker son of Alexander Noel Bleecker and Frances Wade on 4 Jun 1863 in Elizabeth, Union Co., New Jersey. Richard was born 2 on 27 Aug 1821 in New York City, New York. He died on 21 Apr 1875 in New York City, New York.

He was baptized by the Rev. Stephen Rowan, according to the family Bible which records that Richard died of "gastric fever" and was buried at Trinity. Trinity records say he was buried "churchyard" which could be the burial ground used by the Parish, outside of Trinity Church's famous ground, though another Trinity record has him buried in A.L. Bleecker's vault.

In the 1869 New York City directory, he is listed as: "Bleecker Richard W. v. pres. 192 B'way & 9 Cooper Union, h 326 E. 13th.."

According to the 1870 census, Richard was president of a life insurance company. In 1870 the couple were living on 2nd Ave. in New York City.

  5194 F i Mary Pegram Bleecker 1 was born 2, 3 on 17 Sep 1867 in New Jersey.

Margaret married (1) Col. Solomon Williams son of Henry Guston Williams and Elizabeth Arrington on 20 May 1863 in Sussex Co., Virginia. Solomon died in Jun 1863.

The following is a brief quote from an autobiographical work by Wharton Jackson Green (1831-1910): "While that brief colloquy was going on, a young gentleman, Lieutenant Pegram, approached where the head of the column was halted with a dead man in front of his saddle. This proved to be my old Colonel and Pegram's brother-in-law - only three weeks before married to his sister - Colonel Sol Williams, only two years out of the Academy. He was shot directly through the forehead. He (Pegram) said we had just before killed a General Davis by precisely a like shot. On my asking where he was from, he replied, "Mississippi."

Another reference to the death of Sol. Williams is found in "A Virginia Girl in the Civil War" written by Myrta Lockett Avary who wrote:

"Another sad thing among the sorrows of that supper was when Colonel Sol Williams's brother-in-law, John Pegram, came in, and sat down in our midst. General Stuart went up to him, and wrung his hand in a silence that even the dauntless Stuart's lips were too tremulous at once to break. When he could speak he said: "I grieve for myself as for you, lieutenant, but it was a death that any one of us might be proud to die."

Colonel Williams had been Lieutenant Pegram's superior officer as well as brother-in-law. It had been his sorrowful lot to take the body of his colonel on his horse in front of him, and carry it to a house where it could be reverently cared for until he could send it home to bride and kindred. He had cut a lock of hair from the dead, and when the troops went off to Pennsylvania, he gave it to me for his sister. I shall never forget that supper hour, or how the unhappy young fellow looked when he came in among us after his ride with the dead..."

Halstead Williamson Marshall, son of Edward and Isabel R. Marshall, entered into life March 17, 1904, in the 17th year of his age. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." It is this echo of the Master's own words which involuntarily rises to mind, as loving memories recall anew the pure young spirit lately called hence. Though in the full flush of youth, joyous in the buoyancy of boyhood's healthful vigor, yet, as we look back upon him now, it is to realize, through ever recurring evidence, how rare and beautiful were the gifts of mind and heart which made his influence felt, and make it yet a living power on all with whom he came in contact. As though akin rather to the spirit than the material would, no sooner was the tie of consciencious nearness to the life about him severed than his "conversation was in heaven," his thoughts and words, as he lingered in the border-land, already breathing the sweetness and purity of that world toward which, he was drifting. "O God," he prayed, with the direct and touching confidence of childhood's faith, "O God, Williamson is going to die; take him to heaven with you." Can we doubt the fervent prayer was answered! That He who likewise cried: "Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit," heard the trusting voice of faith, and lovingly bore him to the Father's breast? What more could love's own yearning ask? Though dwelling with fond, insistent memory on the fair young life seemingly so fitted for earthly joys, on the beautiful promise of mind and soul, rendering him so loved and lovable; on the rare, sweet gift which voiced its gladness in music's joyous art; yet, if thus fitted to earthly joys, how infinitely greater the fitness for that larger, fuller life, God's own rich gift, "eternal life," wherein each faculty of mind and spirit shall find its true development. "Pure in heart," forevermore he looks on God. Let human hearts be comforted.
