Mary married George Alexander Temple on 3 Apr 1855 in Greene Co., Illinois. George was born on 11 Oct 1826 in Nr Knoxville, Davidson Co., Tennessee. He died on 13 Feb 1885 in Sterling, Rice, Kansas.

2364. George Washington Rives (James Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born on 13 May 1837 in Rivesville, Greene, Co., Illinois. He died on 29 Mar 1920 in Alton, Madison, Co., Illinois.

The following is from "Portrait and Biographical Record, Macoupin Co., Illinois", 1891; Chicago: Bigraphical Publishing Company

"Among the extensive farmers of Barr Township, the biographer may well mention the name which appears at the head of this paragraph. Mr. Rives is the son of James Rives and Elizabeth Hood, both natives of North Carolina, who have resided in Kentucky, previous to their migration to Illinois. Having arrived in the Prairie State they settled in Greene County, about the years 1834 and there died.

Our subject first saw the light in Greene County, May 13, 1837, and there he took his early training upon the farm, and in the district school, and did not come to this county until about the time he reached his majority. He then settled upon section 21, Barr Township, in 1858, but returned to his native county two years later, to bring forth his bride. He was married January 35, 1860 to Miss Jemima Deal, a daughter of George and Lucy (Rismiller) Deal, natives of Pennsylvania. Mr. Deal died in Luzerne County, Pa., and the mother in Christian County, Ill. Their daughter Jemima was born in North Hampton County, Pa., March 9, 1838.

To Mr. and Mrs. Rives were granted ten bright and interesting children, namely: Charles P.; William H., who married Miss Anna Skaggs; James L. who married Miss Emma Jones; Augustus M., George E., Lenora E., John M., Harry E., Everette A. and Stephen C. These children are all being brought up in the faith of the Christian religion, and are given excellent opportunities of education, the parents being intelligent and thoughtful and desirous of the best good for their children. They are both earnest members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and in politics Mr. Rives is attached to the Republican party. Farming and stock-raising absorb the greater part of Mr. Rives' interest and efforts and he is successful in his endeavors. He is the prosperous owner of seven hundred and sixty acres, all in Barr Township."

George married Jemima Deahl (Deal) on 26 Jan 1860 in Greene Co., Illinois. Jemima was born on 9 Jan 1838 in Northampton, Pennsylvania. She died on 10 Sep 1912.

2365. Lucy Rives (James Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born on 21 Dec 1838 in Rivesville, Greene, Co., Illinois.

Lucy married Charles W. Craw 1 son of Allen Craw and Lucy Griswold on 10 Mar 1858 in Greene Co., Illinois. Charles was born on 4 Mar 1828 in Franklin, Vermont. He died on 22 Aug 1889 in Sadorus, Champaign, Co., Illinois.

The following is from "Portrait and Biographical Album of Champaign Co., Ill." published in 1887:

"CHARLES W. CRAW. This honored citizen of Colfax Township was one of the pioneer settlers who came to this county in the spring of 1865. He took possession of 350 acres on section 2, and for a period of twenty years thereafter industriously pursued his chosen calling as a farmer. He is a native of Franklin County, Vt., born March 4, 1828, and the son of Allen and Lucy (Griswold) Craw, also natives of Vermont. When he was a lad of ten years old his parents emigrated to the Prairie State, locating in White hall, Greene County, where our subject grew to manhood, receiving excellent home training and a common-school education. He assisted his father in tilling the soil and remained an inmate of the parental home until several years after attaining his majority. In 1856 Mr. Craw took unto himself a wife and helpmate in the person of Miss Lucy, daughter of James and Elizabeth Rives, who were natives of Kentucky, whence they removed to Illinois and located in Greene County in the pioneer days. Mrs. Craw was born in Greene County, Ill., Dec. 21, 1838, and remained with her parents until her marriage. Our subject at that time was the owner of 200 acres of land which he had brought to a good state of cultivation, and in addition to this also leased a tract and carried on farming until 1860. He then decided to change his occupation, and purchasing a stock of merchandise, took possession of a store building at Greenfield, in the same county. He was engaged in mercantile pursuits at that point until about 1863, when he disposed of his stock of goods and other property; he came into this county in 1865, locating upon the land which he now occupies. Since that time he has given his principal attention to agriculture, with the exception of five years, during which he carried on a general store at Sadorus. Mr. Craw has been greatly prospered in his farming and mercantile pursuits, and is now the owner of 550 acres of land in Colfax Township, all of which, with the exception of 100 acres, is included in the home farm. He owns over 1,300 acres in Kansas-991 in Barber county, and 324 in Harper County. His land is largely devoted to stock-raising, and he exhibits some of the finest horses, cattle and hogs to be found in the country. In addition to his farm property Mr. C. is the owner of houses and lots in both Sadorus and Tolono. Our subject, politically, has endorsed the principles of the Republican party since its organization. He has steadily declined to become an officer-holder having enough private business to occupy his time and attention. He has been an active member of the Methodist Church for many years, and has contributed liberally and cheerfully for its advancement and maintenance. He was trained from a child in the doctrines of this church, and takes great satisfaction in thus doing honor to his excellent parents, who were also firm believers in and followers of the Methodist faith. Mr. and Mrs. Craw have eight children living, namely: Fannie, the wife of D. W. Smith, of Greene County, Ill.; Nellie, Sylvester, James W., Elmer, Lidia J., William G. and John W. Ada died when ten months old. Our subject commenced life without a dollar in capital, and received very little assistance afterward. He had been trained to habits of industry and economy, and was naturally wide-awake, ambitious, and always willing to work. He has the satisfaction of knowing that he has always given his creditors abundant time and made allowance for misfortune and sickness. He is naturally of a very kind and generous disposition, willing to "live and let live." ..."

2366. Frances Jane Rives (James Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 1 on 18 Mar 1841 in Rivesville, Greene, Co., Illinois. She died on 18 Sep 1915 in Macon Co., Ilinois.

Frances married Robert Woodcock on 29 Oct 1863 in Greene Co., Illinois. Robert was born 1 in Aug 1835 in Pennsylvania.

The 1900 Census reflects the could have been married for 38 years and have had one child, who, with his family, is still living with her parents. Also living with the family is Katura Rives, age 56, who is identifed as a niece. The occupation of Robert Woodcock is gven as Banker.

Margaret married James Wesley Robinson on 14 Dec 1869 in Macon Co., Ilinois. James was born on 15 May 1842 in Carrollton, Greene Co., Illinois. He died on 24 Sep 1924.

Pamela married George Bruce on 8 May 1875. George was born on 29 Sep 1835 in Wilmington, Clinton Co., Ohio. He died on 19 Sep 1880 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.

Lucy married 1 Robert Elias Thacker about 1854. Robert was born 2, 3 in Sep 1834 in Kentucky. He died before 1910.

They had the following children:

2377. William Henry Southall (Rebecca Rives (Reaves) , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3, 4 on 8 Nov 1830 in Warren Co., North Carolina.

In 1860, he is living next to his parents in Christian Co., Kentucky.

In 1900, his wife is shown as Mary A. The census shows the couple have been married for 36 years.

In 1870 he shows his age age 40.

William married (1) Mollie. Mollie was born in 1846 in Kentucky.

In 1880, William's wife is identified as Mollie. We find a marriage between a W. H. Southall and J. M. Lipscomb in Christian Co. Jan. 2, 1873 but can not be certain this is the Mollie who appears as his wife in 1880. In 1900, his wife is shown as Mary A. and the census shows the couple have been married for 36 years. This could only be possible if the years married was off by exactly 10 years.

William married (2) Mary Evaline Thacker daughter of James Benjamin Thacker and Sarah G. Fort on 29 Jan 1852 in Stewart Co, , Tennessee. Mary was born 1 in 1838 in Kentucky.

They had the following children:

        William married Emily Jones.
6689 M ii George Walton Southall was born on 18 Apr 1858. He died on 12 Dec 1917.

2379. Tempe Southall (Rebecca Rives (Reaves) , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 1 in 1832 in Warren Co., North Carolina. She died before 1880.

Tempe married Harrison Guthrie on 2 Feb 1859 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Harrison was born 1 in 1831 in Kentucky.

They had the following children:

  6698 F i Allie Guthrie was born 1 in 1862 in Christian Co., Kentucky.
  6699 F ii Rebecca Guthrie was born 1 in 1865 in Christian Co., Kentucky.

The 1860 Census shows a Frances but does not include a Rebecca. In 1880, Rebecca Guthrie is found living with her Aunt, Elizabeth (Bettie) Brame. It appears that Frances and Rebecca may be the same daughter.
6700 M iii William Edward Guthrie was born on 20 Feb 1867. He died on 30 Apr 1953.
  6701 F iv Margaret Guthrie was born in 1868 in Christian Co., Kentucky.

In 1870 we find a Maggie Guthrie, identified as a niece, living in the home of George Gee and wife Bettie with is possibly our Margaret Guthrie.

2380. James T. Southall (Rebecca Rives (Reaves) , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3 in 1837 in North Carolina.

Family sources agree that James T. Southall was a son of Holman Southall and wife Rebecca but he is not shown in the family in 1850. The 1850 Census does show a Jane Southall, age 11, which could possibly be an error. James T. is clearly with the family at the time of the 1860 Census.

James married Mary N. Rose on 15 Oct 1859 in Haywood Co., Tennessee. Mary was born 1 in 1839 in Tennessee.

They had the following children:

  6703 F ii Mary E. Southall was born 1 in 1865 in Arkansas.
  6704 F iii Emma Southall was born 1 in 1869 in Kentucky.
  6705 M iv Charles E. Southall was born 1, 2 in 1872 in Tennessee.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 1 year and have had no children.
        Charles married 1, 2 Minnie M. Stevenson daughter of James A. Stevenson and Margaret on 22 Feb 1899 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Minnie was born 3 in Dec 1869 in Kentucky.
  6706 M v Robert T. Southall was born 1 in 1874 in Tennessee.
  6707 M vi Willie L. Southall was born 1 in 1878 in Tennessee.

2381. John Southall (Rebecca Rives (Reaves) , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3 in 1840 in Warren Co., North Carolina.

In 1860, he was single, working in the home of a neighbor, near his parents. In 1880, he was single, working as a clerk in Lafayette, Christian Co., Kentucky.

The 1910 Census shows the couple have been married for 29 years. Nallie shows she has had 13 children with 7 living. We do not know if all of these were by John or if one or more may have been from a prior marriage. Clearly the 4 children in the home in 1910 were by this marriage. Unfortunately, we have not found John on the 1900 Census.

John married Nallie in 1881. Nallie was born in 1851 in Kentucky.

They had the following children:
