He is listed in Civil District 9 of Montgomery Co., Tennessee but his younger children show they were born in North Carolina. It is possible that he traveled to Tennessee and then returned to North Carolina before moving on to Kentucky where he is found in 1850. In 1850, the 8 younger children, with the exception of Edward, were still at home. The 1850 Census shows that all the children were born in North Carolina.

She apparently died prior to 24 Nov. 1836, the date of her father's Will . At August Court, 1840 in Warren Co., North Carolina, John Watkins, Jr. was appointed guardian of Frances A. Watkins and James R. Watkins.

Rebecca married 1 Holman Southall son of Henry Southall and Mary Arrington on 4 Dec 1829 in Warren Co., North Carolina. Holman was born 2, 3, 4, 5 in 1805 in Warren Co., North Carolina. He died in Jul 1871 in Christian Co., Kentucky.

The Warren Co., North Carolina Census for 1840 shows Holman Southall with 2 under 5; 1 10/15; 1 30/40. Females: 1 under 5; 2 5/10; 1 30/40.

Warren Co., North Carolina, Deed Book 29, p. 111. 10 Sept. 1845. Holemon Southall mortgaged land, horses, horse cart, cattle, crops (corn, fodder, oats & tobacco), 1 negro woman, household furniture, plantation utensils, etc. to John D. Tucker - and then joins with John D. Tucker in selling the land to Howell R. Moss, 23 Dec. 1846 (DB-29, p. 320) - acknowledging this deed Feb. Ct. 1847. He must have left Warren Co. shortly thereafter. While some sources state that he went directly to Kentucky, we know that in 1850 he was in Montgomery Co., Tennessee but moved on quickly and is found in Kentucky in 1860.

The 1850 Census contains errors since it shows the younger children as being born in Tennessee but later census records confirm that all the children were born in North Carolina.

At the time of the 1860 Census, James T., Sarah and Elizabeth were still in the home and William H. was living next door. William H. has posed a problem since the 1850 Census shows a brother named Henry, born 1834. In Christian Co., we find William H. listed on the 1860 and 1870 Census. In 1800, it appears that William H. is listed as Henry. This is based on the names and ages of the children of William H. Southall on the 1870 Census.

Rebecca died after the 1860 Census but before 1870 when we find Holman married to his second wife, Sarah.

They had the following children:

2376 F i Lucy Jane Southall was born on 29 May 1838. She died on 29 Mar 1926.

Bottom of Form 2 Kristy, I am so glad you responded and perhaps you can help me as well. Because Anna died so young, we have very few records on her. And, unfortunately, the family must have not put a tombstone on her grave although she must be buried at New Salem in Marietta. Anna and my grandmother were first cousins. Her dad, James Madison Kirk was a younger half brother to my great grandfather, William J. Eubanks. James Madison Kirk was the son of John Kirk and Emily Eubanks. John was much older than Emily and had been previously married. He and his first wife, Mary Rives, had 10 children. Then about 1838 he married Emily who had had her son, William J. Eubanks out of wedlock in 1834. He was known as Billy Eubanks. He lived with his Eubanks grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Edwards Eubanks near the Kirk farm on or just off the Burnt Hickory Road in Cobb County. James Madison Kirk was born September 21, 1845 and he was always close to his half brother, Billy Eubanks. James and Evelyn Martin Kirk only had the two girls, Laura and Anna. Laura married John N. Price and Anna married Rev. F. M. Lacy. I knew Getrude Lacy Brock well. She was the sister of your Earnest. This is a brief sketch and I invite any questions. Meanwhile I would like the names of Earnest' children and how you descend from Earnest. Many thanks, R. L. Guffin

The following family history is from Georgia Memoirs, Vol. 2, page 473:

"WILLIAM STANLEY HUFF, lawyer, Dahlonega, Lumpkin Co., Ga., son of John and Louisa (Harris) Huff, was born in Dahlonega, Jan. 13, 1868. His paternal grandfather, Henry Huff, was born in Anderson district, S. C., early in this century, and married Miss Martha Rives, of Virginia, who bore him seven children: William, in Pentz, Cal.; John, Dahlonega; Thomas, who died in 1849 while on the way to California; Andrew Jackson, who went to China after the late war; Eliza, Mrs; Davis, Lumpkin county; Susan, Mrs. Satterfield, Ball Ground, Cherokee Co., Ga.; Elijah M., Tennessee. Mr. Huff's father was born in Hall county, Ga., March 22, 1832, and was married-Dec. 29, 1854, to Miss Louisa, daughter of John Harris, of Lumpkin county, and a niece of Gen. Harrison W. Riley, who represented the county in both branches of the general assembly for many years, and who, in his day, exercised a potential influence in the gold region. Early in life Mr. Huff's father went to California, where lie remained a number of years engaged in mining, an industry to which he has devoted nearly all his life. For eighteen years he has been superintendent of the Hand and Barlow Mining company at Dahlonega, and is recognized as a man of superior business judgment and capacity; and is highly esteemed as a citizen. During the late "unpleasantness" he served as a lieutenant on Gov. Brown's staff, and for many years was a justice of the inferior court of the county. The maternal grandfather of the subject of this sketch, John Harris, was born in Tennessee, and came to what is now Lumpkin county about 1830. He was a soldier during the war with Mexico, and died at New Orleans while on his way home. Of the children born to Mr. Huff's parents the following survive: Henry Harrison, Alfred Holt, William Stanley, the subject of this sketch; James Burnsides, Martha Elizabeth, Frank Augustus, Susan Lamentina and Mary Josephine. Those deceased are Alphonso, Florence, Francis, Howard and John Calhoun. Mr. Huff was reared in Dahlonega, and received his primary and preparatory education at the excellent schools in the town. In 1888 he entered the North Georgia Agricultural college, where he completed his literary studies and graduated in 1890. He immediately began the study of law under the able preceptorship of Hon. William P. Price, one of the most eminent lawyers in the circuit, widely-known and highly esteemed, professionally and as a citizen, by everybody. Having passed an exceptionally rigid examination on all branches of the profession with great credit he was admitted to the bar at the October term, 1891, of the superior court of Lumpkin county, judge C. J. Wellborn, presiding. Entering upon the practice at once in his native place, he has already laid the foundation for a large and influential and remunerative clientage in the northeastern circuit.
