Jones Mabry was the bondsman on the marriage bond for Stephen Rives and Sophia Cannon when they were married in Warren Co., North Carolina.
Stephen Turner Rives, along with several brothers and their families moved to Montgomery Co., Tennessee in 1826. They settled on the Tennessee side of the state line between Clarksville and Christian County Kentucky. Stephen Turner Rives and his wife were buried on the Tillotson plantation outside of Clarksville Tennessee.
Stephen married 2 Sophia Meeks Cannon 1 daughter of James Cannon and Mary Duncan Porteus on 18 Dec 1815 in Warren Co., North Carolina. Sophia was born about 1800 in Virginia.
The following is from a biographical sketch of Sophia Meeks Cannon found in Reliques of Rives:
Sophia Meeks Cannon, daughter of James Cannon, of Dublin, Ireland, and his wife, Mary Duncan Porteus, of England. Sophia Meeks Cannon was about fourteen years old at the time of her marriage. "Her father, Samuel James Cannon, an Irish boy, ran away with Mary Duncan Porteus, of London, a girl of noble birth," Hallie Erminie Rives (Mrs. Post Wheeler) writes. "They came on a sailing vessel to Quebec and went to Granville county, N. C. Sophy was the fourth of six children. Horace was the youngest. Within a week of each other Samuel and Mary Cannon died, both under thirty-two. Helen, the eldest, twelve years old, found herself very poor and alone with this motherless fatherless brood. Two Quakers asked Helen for the baby (a month old) and Helen gave him to them. That was Horace, the father of Joseph G. Cannon, four times Speaker of the House [of Representatives of the United States] and forty-six years Member of Congress. My grandfather Stephen, his brother Thomas, his brother Robert, his brother James, and his sister Sally who married William Moss of Virginia, moved to Kentucky and Tennessee and settled along the state line road, my grandfather on the Tennessee, Montgomery county side, and the others on the Kentucky, Christian county side. I can see that old state line road yet, with its hedges of osage oranges, its deep oak woods, its broad fields, and square eightroom white houses, with their wings and 'quarters,' and round post porticoes."

The Will of Nancy Mabry was dated 11 Oct. 1871, probated August Court 1873 and recorded in Will Book 51, Page 64, Warren Co., North Carolina, provides as follows:
All my property to my children and grandchildren, namely (1) the three children of Martha T. Buchanan; (2) the children of James C. Buchanan, namely Susan, Dorson, and Henty Buchanan; (3) Lucretia Newman; (4) Eleanor N. Turner; (5) Charles Mabry; (6) Sarah L. Watkins; (7) Julia Ann Mabry; (8) Stephen G. Mabry; (9) Phoebe G. Hagwood; (10) Len S. Mabry; and (11) my grandson Thomas J. Tunstall. To my grandson William J. Mabry - one gray horse. Ex. son Stephen G. Mabry Wit. John H. Bullock, H.R. Moss (Probate indicates the children of Martha T. Buchanan were residents of Ballard Countv, Kentucky; as well as Charles Mabry, Leonard S. Mabry, Eleanor Turner, Phoebe Hagwood and Thomas J. Tunstall. Julia Ann Mabry had died since the death of Nancy Mabry. All were of age except Thomas J. Tunstall.
Anne married Woodford Jones Mabry 1, 2 son of Charles Mabry and Phoebe Gibbs on 14 Apr 1806 in Warren Co., North Carolina. Woodford was born on 19 Sep 1785 in Warren Co., North Carolina. He died in Jan 1850 in Warren Co., North Carolina.
The Will of Jones Mabry was dated 27 Sept. 1849, probated at February Court, 1850 and recorded in Will Book 40, Page 260, Warren Co., North Carolina. It provides in part:
Wife Nancy Mabry to have a life estate in the land where I now live, being the Reaves tract of land, and if she chooses the Reaves plantation, the dwelling house is to be repaired out of my estate. She is also given a life estate in Negroes Alfred, Peter, Jacob, Emily, and Quintina.
Balance of land and Negroes and remaining property I leave to my ten children. Daughter Martha B. Buchanan to have Negro Sandy. Daughter Lucretia Newman - Negro Malissa. Daughter Eleanor Turner to have Negro Amy and $50. Charles Mabry - Negro Gabriel. Sarah L. Watkins - Negro Julia and $100. To Julia A. Mabry, Negro Jim and $50. To Stephen G. Mabry - Negro Jackson. To Phebe Mabry - Negro Violet and $50. To Leonard S. Mabry - Negro Edmund and $50. To Elizabeth J. Mabry - Negro William and $50. To Elizabeth and Phebe - an infant child of Quintina's. Son Leonard is to have two year's schooling paid by estate. Executor, son Stephen.
He is not on the 1850 census of Warren Co., North Carolina with the rest of his family.
