Sept 25, 1847 - Original claim and authorization as filed in Montgomery Co, Tenn, by Eleanor P. Rives (wife of Henry A. Rives, daughter of Edward Tillotson, and granddaughter of William Tillotson, deceased, late of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and empowers her husband, Henry A. Rives, to act as her attorney "as if I were there in my own proper person". This was filed before Justices of the Peace, John Gold and William B. Collins.
According for Reliques of Rives, she was 'six generations removed from John Tillottson, Archbishop of Canterbury.

He was married first to Sarah Ann Pendleton who died March 2, 1866 in Christian Co., Kentucky. We have no record of any children by his second married to Mildred Rived.6314 M ii William Marshall Rives 1 was born on 12 Dec 1841 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. He died in Point Lookout, Maryland.
He enlisted as a pvt. in Co. L, 14th Tenn. Inf., C.S.A., and served until captured early in 1863 near Somerset, Ky. He had just joined Morgan and while out with a skirmishing party alighted from his horse, slipped the bridle over his arm, and stooped down to drink from a spring. The horse heard other horses approaching, jerked loose and escaped. Young Rives sought a hiding place behind a log but was detected in his place of concealment. He died of pneumonia while a prisoner of war at Pt. Lookout. His father spent more than a thousand dollars to have his body brought back to his home. This took more than a year after the close of the war. Some time after that a comrade, who had found Billy's diary, sent it to his mother and father.William married Eliza Jane Morgan on 6 Dec 1859 in Christian Co., Kentucky. 6315 M iii Horace Plummer Rives was born on 20 Jan 1845. He died on 12 Jul 1929. 6316 M iv Stephen Edward Rives was born on 25 Oct 1843. He died on 30 Jan 1926.
