James married Julia Ann Kyle Otey daughter of John Hopkins Otey and Elizabeth Buford on 19 Jan 1836 in Bedford Co., Virginia. Julia was born 1, 2 about 1813 in Bedford Co., Virginia. She died 3 in 1863 in Montgomery Co, Missouri.
Other sources have shown her name as Oley. It is shown as Oley in a brief family sketch found in A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri by William S. Bryan and Robert Rose and published in 1876.

In 1870 the couple had no children in the home. Benjamins's occupation is given as "merchant". Living with the couple is Ella's brother, Edward, who apparently is a clerk in Benjamin's store. She apparently never married. She was single in 1880 and still living at home. At the time of the 1900 Census she is shown as HH and single. Living with her are Ben E. 599. Daniel Theodore Pegram 1 (Winchester , Daniel , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 2 on 21 Sep 1821 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. He died on 10 Sep 1901.
Daniel Theodore and his first wife made their home in York Co., South Carolina on land that later became part of a large state park system. After the death of Lavinia and his remarriage, he and his new bride moved to the Steele Creek community of Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina.
Apparently Daniel Theodore soon established himself as one of the leaders in the Steele Creek Community. Among other things, he was an Elder in the Steele Creek Church. He was said, by his granddaughter, to be a very devoted Christian. A story was printed in the Charlotte (N. C.) Observer in July 1943, stating that there was a long drought in the area and the Church Elders decided to meet and pray for rain. The Steele Creek Church was on a sloping hill, and as Daniel Theodore approached several of the Elders seated on the church steps, saw that he was carrying an umbrella. They jested to him, "what are you doing with the umbrella?" He replied, "we came to pray for rain, didn't we, and I believe that we will get it."
On his way home after the prayer meeting there was a regular gully washer of a rain, and it went down in history as Daniel Theodore Pegram's rain. The article was published forty two years after Daniel Theodore's death, so the story must have had some validity to have survived for so long.
Religious training in the days of Daniel Theodore was not taken lightly. His granddaughter, Frances Pegram Weaver, related that her father, John Breckenridge Pegram, told her of having to keep the Sabbath Day Holy. No shoes could be polished, no nuts cracked, only absolutely necessary activities were allowed.
Daniel married (1) Lavinia Isabella Stowe daughter of Abram Stowe and Sarah Martin in 1849 in North Carolina. Lavinia was born 1 on 11 Feb 1831 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. She died on 18 May 1864. She was buried 2 in Olney Presbyterian Cemetery, Gaston Co., North Carolina.
Her tombstone shows date of birth as Feb 11, 1829 .

She was a nurse and apparently never married. At the time of the 1920 Census, she was living in Rockingham, Richmond Co., North Carolina with the family of Thomas Leak.2252 F xii Lelia Eugenia Pegram was born on 2 Jul 1878. 602. Edward Larkin Pegram 1 (Winchester , Daniel , Edward , Daniel , George ) was born 2 on 8 Jan 1828 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. He died on 23 Jun 1904.
Edward Larkin Pegram volunteered for Confederate Service in July 1861, with the "Gaston Invincibles", Company B., 28th Regiment, under Capt. Theodore H. Edwards, Col. Lane commanding. He was appointed 2nd. Lt., and then 1 st. Lt. He fought in the battle of Gettysburg, and was severely wounded in the face on the third day of the fight. After being disabled he served as Quartermaster Sergeant, and remained in Virginia until the end of the war.
In World War I Edward Larkin Pegram had more descendants serving in that war than any other man from Gaston County, who had served in the Confederacy.
Edward Larkin and Julette were married at the old Rhyne home, built In 1799, near Stanley, North Carolina where they are both buried.
Edward married 1 Juletta McGee Rhyne daughter of Daniel Rhyne and Louise McGee on 16 May 1857 in Rhyne Home, Nr. Stanley, North Carolina. Juletta was born 2 on 22 Sep 1833 in North Carolina. She died on 20 Apr 1919 in Gaston Co., North Carolina.
In 1900 she is found living with her son, Ernest and his family.
