Many letters from and about Charlotte are available and have been transcribed. Letters written by her husband before, during, and after the war and in communications by herself, give only a small glimpse of their lives during the 19th Century. She is buried next to her husband and with several of her children in the family cemetery on Route 616 in Brunswick County, VA.
A letter dated July 2, 1913 from her husband Captain Manson to his grand-daughter Lucy Hawes Manson Simpson provides a poignant description of her last days and burial. The letter mentions her death by a "Fatal Burn". The death certificate notes "surface burns over larger portion of body and limbs. Clothing caught at open fireplace - (Cotton & Woolen)".

Charlotte's wedding band and an ambrotype photo of her at about 19 years of age are owned by Richard Cheatham, Richmond, VA a great-great-grandson.

From Twilight and Darkness by Andrew Brown:

"William G. Pegram, First Lieutenant of Co. A of the 34th Mississippi, was promoted captain in May 1862 when the original captain, Dr. Jno. Y. Murry, was made Assistant Surgeon. On September 2 of the same year he was appointed Major, but was not confirmed until February 16, 1864 with rank to date from February 28, 1863. The long delay was due to circumstance that the Richmond War Department insisted that Pegram was outranked by six captains and, as promotions at that period of the war were made strictly on seniority, it took almost a year and half to get the record straight. In the meantime Pegram doubtless performed the duty of a major on his captain's pay.

At the battle of Chickamauga Pegram received a gunshot wound through the body that broke a rib and "materially injured some of the organs in the abdomen". He spent practically all his time in various hospitals until February 25, 1865, when he resigned. The medical certificate stated that he "can neither walk nor ride without great pain and some danger", and that he suffered much from sciatica. He remained at home, so far as is known, for the remainder of the war. In later years he entered politics and served in the legislature, where he was noted both for his tall, spare physique and his sardonic humor."

His death was reported in the Nashville Christian Advocate.
