Mary married ¹ James John Roberts son of John Roberts and Mary Herring in 1877 in Obion Co., Tennessee. James was born ^{2, 3, 4} in Dec 1855 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

The following is from Goodspeed's History of Obion Co., Tennessee:

James J. Roberts is one of twelve children born to John and Mary (Herring) Roberts. John Roberts was a Virginian, and came to Montgomery County, Tenn., when quite young. Here he married and followed farming until 1869, when he came to Obion County and followed the same occupation until his death, which occurred in 1880. The mother still resides on the home place, about two miles west of Union City. James J. was born in Montgomery County, Tenn., in December, 1855, and remained with his parents, assisting them on the farm until his marriage, in 1877, to Mary F. Rives, a native of Sumner County, but reared in Obion county. The following are their children: Carrie (deceased), Willie, Essie, James and Benny. Mr. Roberts has been a resident of the farm of forty-five acres, where he now resides, since 1878. He and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Family sources say he was born in Kentucky but the 1900 Census shows he was born in Tennessee. It does show his father was born in Kentucky. The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 8 years. They have had 4 children with 3 living.

James married Kate Eugenia Oliver daughter of Allen H. Oliver and Louisa A. in 1892 in Tennessee. Kate was born ^{1, 2} in Dec 1873 in Tennessee.

6332. Steven "Little Steve" Rives ¹ (Richard Bullard Rives , Stephen Turner Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) died in Macoupin Co., Ilinois.

The following if from Reliques of the Rives (Ryves), p. 167 and 168:

"Stephen Rives, always known as "Little Steve," and whose full name may have been John Stephen Rives, is notable as having served in the Union Army against his father, with whom apparently all communication was thereafter terminated. "Little Steve" died near Medora, Illinois, where he is buried. His wife was from Ohio and after his death she decided to return to her former home. Forty-five years ago [about 1881] or longer a woman and little boy by the name of Rives were taken off a boat at the little port of Linton, Ky., on the Cumberland River. The woman was sick and she died. She was from Illinois but that seems to be all that was known of her. A young doctor by the name of Finis Brandon attended this woman and after her death he and his wife took the little boy whose name was 'Jimmie' Rives, and he stayed with them until their own son was born. Then he became so jealous of the baby that he went to live with his foster mother's mother (a Mrs. Cobb) and there he remained until he was a young man when Dr. Brandon set him up in business in Nashville, Tenn. This James or "Jimmie" Rives is believed to have been an only child of Stephen Rives."
