"The citizens of Paris and the Southern Baptist Church as a whole suffer an irreparable loss of a true and able leader in the death of Dr. W. B. Kendall, former pastor of the First Baptist Church. He died at 9:15 Friday night at Johns-Hopkins hospital, Baltimore, Md., where he had gone for treatment after a general nervous and physical breakdown, following an illness. The remains will be brought here for burial, the funeral services to be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Dr. Frank Truett of Dallas, Dean Townsend of Baylor College, Belton, and Dr. W. M. Wright, pastor of the First Baptist Church. The choir will have charge of the music. The body accompanied by Mrs. Kendall and brother, Frank Rives of Hopkinsville, Ky.,and Dr. George W. Burnett of Murphreesboro, Tenn., a close friend of Dr. Kendall, will arrive here Monday afternoon at 3:30. Dr. Kendall is survived by his wife, two sons, Ben Gray and William, one brother, Ben Gray Kendall of Waco, and two sisters Mrs. Irvine of Waco and Mrs. Reid of Baltimore, Md. Less than a year ago, Dr. Kendall broke the ties of a pastorate of fifteen years to accept a most urgent and flattering call to the church at Belton, where he was in constant contact with the hundreds of students at Baylor college. It was a real blow to the many friends and acquaintances among his congregation here, and the people of the city, and his death came just as Paris citizens were planning a home for him and his family, so firmly did they believe in his recovery. It was well understood that, though a comparatively young man, he would probably never be able to do any active work again and yet Paris so loved and honored him that they wished his last days to be spent here among the friends and co-workers of other days. Coming of a family of preachers, he was born July 3, 1873, in Christian county, Kentucky, passing away only a few months before he reached the half-century mark. He was educated at Bethel College, Russellville, Ky., receiving his BA and MA degrees there. He later had a theological course at the Baptist seminary at Louisville."
