Rudd, and her daughter, Mollie A. Christian are still at home. Pattie, who would have been about 15, is not in the home and has perhaps died since she was too young to be married.

In 1880 she is found living in the home of John M. Rudd where she is identified as his mother.

She is named in her fathe's will. She was not of age when her father died in 1824.

Martha married (1) Beverly W. Rudd. Beverly was born about 1822 in Amelia Co., Virginia. He died before 1850.

They had the following children:

Elizabeth married Wilson. Wilson died before 1870.
1933 M iii Henry B. Rudd was born in 1846 in Virginia.

There is a Henry B. Rudd in Richmond in 1900 but we can not document that he is the same as our Henry B. Rudd. The only indication that he may be our Henry Rudd is the fact that he is 50 years old but has only been married for 13 years.

Martha married 2 (2) Richard A. Christian 1 on 24 Aug 1848 in Amelia Co., Virginia. Richard was born 3, 4 in 1823 in James City Co., Virginia.

The 1850 Census indicates he was born in South Carolina but other family records indicate he was born in Tennessee.

We do not have documentation to support that he died in Alabama and since he was in Mississippi at the time of the 1850 Census, it does seem questionable but he could have decided to return to Alabama and perhaps even died in route.

Dr. Goode was for five years a student of Professor Draper at Hampton Sidney College, and at the University of New York. He was assistant in chemistry at the latter school, before and after he took his degree in medicine at Yale. He wrote:

"I was connected in some way with nearly all the experiments and researches conducted by Dr. Draper. While I was his assistant at Hampton College (Sidney), he had discovered the principle of electrotyping, but turned it to no practical purpose. He took copies of some coins and medals but nothing more.

In New York he was first to apply Daguerra's power of taking pictures of human faces. My face was the first ever photographed by that process, for I sat for the picture in the chapel of the University of New York within three days of the time Daguerra's pamphlet was received in New York. I was closely and intimately associated with Dr. Draper in his efforts to improve the camera and the process so that it could be used in taking pictures of man. Great advances were made in the laboratory, some by him and some by me. The cameras now used in photography is our joint production. The old iodine process was radically defective."

Dr. Goode was also associated with Draper and Sillman in their first experiments in photography with electric light.
