The 1880 Census lists his occupation as fruit grower. He apparently married again to an Emma since Mrs. Emma Pegram was the informant on his death certificate. It should be noted that his death certificate contains errors because it shows his father as Gordon Pegram instead of Gideon Pegam and shows his father's place of birth as South Carolina when in fact it was Warren Co., North Carolina.
Zachariah married Lura C. Fryer on 5 Mar 1872. Lura died in 1880 in Jefferson Co., Kentucky.
She does not appear on the 1880 Census. She probably died in childbirth since her youngest son is only 2 months old at the time of the 1880 Census.
