Stephen Milam son of Rowland and Liddia (Jackson) Milam was born in 1799 in Warren Co., North Carolina. He married his cousin, Ellen/Elendor Pegram daughter of Daniel Pegram and Lucy (Milam) Pegram about 1821 in Stewart Co.,Tennessee. Stephen is shown on the 1830 census of Stewart Co, Tennessee, page 247. In 1834 he sold his farm in Stewart Co., and moved to Henderson Co., Tennessee. where he is found on the 1840 census, page 351. His first wife, Ellen (Pegram) Milam died in Henderson Co., Tennessee in 1853. The 1860 census of Henderson Co., Tennessee lists Stephen and his family on page 254, Civil District 17, Red Mound post office, dwelling number 1655. He is Listed as a farmer with real estate valued at $1800 and personal property valued at $2500. Stephen Milam was remarried to Eliza Ashland in 1868 and shortly thereafter moved to Dyer Co., Tennessee where he died in 1873.

At the time of the 1880 Census she was living with her son-in-law and daughter, Frank Simpson and wife. Her age on the 1880 census is shown as 73.
Lockey married 1 Hamilton Settle son of John Settle and Crecy about 1828 in Tennessee. Hamilton was born 2 on 16 Jun 1806 in Virginia. He died on 23 Jul 1873 in Dover, Stewart Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Taylor's Chapel Cemetery, Dover, Stewart Co., Tennessee.
He probably came into Stewart County, Tennessee in the early 1830's. Hamilton was a brick mason by trade. He purportedly helped to build the old Dover Court House. He served terms as Coroner and Clerk of Court of Stewart County. He was a Master Mason member of Phoenix Lodge No. 270 located in Dover, Tennessee.

Another record show that Thomas J. married Medora C. Hasled and that he died in 1880. Obviously something if wrong here but we will show what we have and hope that someone can correct it.Thomas married (1) Sarah L. Jones in Mar 1867 in Columbia Co., Arkansas. Thomas married (2) Sarah J. Harris in Aug 1875 in Poinsett Co., Arkansas. 947 M vii John S. Settle was born 1 in 1843 in Dover, Stewart Co., Tennessee. He died in 1863 in Killed in Civil War in Battle Seven Pines.
He was single, living at home at the time of the 1860 Census. The 1860 census gives his age as 21.948 F viii Locky Elizabeth (Lizzie) Settle was born in Apr 1850. She died in 1926.
224. Delilah Pegram 1 (Daniel , Daniel , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 2 about 1809 in Stewart Co, , Tennessee. She died 3 about 1853 in Stewart Co, , Tennessee.
According to Goodspeeds History of Houston County, Tennessee, Delilah died when her son, Benjamin was 12 years or about 1850. She was still living when the census was taken on Nov. 12, 1850 where she is shown as Dilly Hagler, age 41.
Delilah married William Hagler son of John Hagler and Dorothy Shanklin about 1832 in Tennessee. William was born in 1796 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. He died after Jul 1841 in Madison Co., Illinois.
According to Goodspeeds History of Houston County, Tennessee, William died when his son Benjamin was 3 years old or about 1841. Another source says he died in Stewart Co. where he lived but it is possible he died while on a temporary trip to Illinois.
William and Delilah had the following children:

Settlement report of J. J. PEGRAM administrator of W. H. PEGRAM's estate. "I have collected from the U. S. Gov. for services rendered by him as a soldier in the Gov. service in the year 1877" $160.
The name of William H. conflicts with the 1860 census showing his name as William A. Pegram.956 M iii Elijah Quincey Pegram was born in Aug 1846. He died in 1935. 957 F iv Martha Pegram was born 1 in 1849 in Tennessee. 958 F v Louisa C. Pegram was born in 1851. She died on 8 Oct 1885. 959 F vi Mary Pegram was born 1 in 1853 in Tennessee. 960 F vii Sarah Elizabeth (Sallie) Pegram was born 1, 2 in 1856 in Tennessee. Sarah married H. G. Pillow.
On Dec. 9, 1901 Sallie and H. G. Pillow received $33, less $100 from the Estate of S. A. Pegrum who died in 1896 in Henderson Co., Tennessee.

The source for all the descendents of Nathan Petus Pegram are from Some Middle Tennessee Pegrams and Their Ancestors by Dorothy Pegram Rowland, 1988. It is a 500+ page book with many stories of the Pegrams in Tennessee who are descended from Daniel Pegram and Lucy Milam Pegram. She has done a great job tracing not only her own ancestry but many of the Pegrams descended from Edward Pegram who settle in the same area about the same time. Ms. Rowland has kindly given us permission to use her material in hopes that it will help others continue her own work. We are deeply indebted to her.

Medaris, Mary 62This indicates that Amanda is a child by Thomas' prior marriage. The couple's first child, Mary, was not born until about 1852 so apparently they had been recently married.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 60 years. They have had 13 children with 9 living. In 1900, they are found living with their daughter, Sarah C. Russell and her husband, Joseph Russell.
