Dave Donahue who has done a lot of work on this Milam family has assigned James H. as a son of William rather than Stephen. Until this is resolved, James should probably be removed as a son of Stephen an Ellen.

The following is from Goodspeed's History of Tennessee:
Zachariah J. Milam, a prominent citizen and farmer, of the Eighth District, was the son of Stephen and Ellen (Pegram) Milam, and was born in Stewart County, Tenn., in 1823, and is one of nine children, six of whom are living, and all in Tennessee. The father was of English origin, born in North Carolina, in 1799. His grandfather, Rolen Milam, was a native of the same State, and moved to Tennessee, locating in Stewart County, when Stephen Milam was but a boy, and remained there until his death. Stephen was a farmer. After attaining his majority and receiving his education, in about 1820 he married Miss Ellen Pegram. He remained in Stewart County until 1834, when he sold his farm and moved to Henderson County, and in 1868 to Dyer County, where he died in 1873. Mrs. Milam was born in North Carolina, in 1803, and died in 1853. In 1868 Mr. Milam married Miss Eliza Ashland, who is still living. Zachariah J., our subject, had few educational advantages, but is a self-improved man. In January, 1846, he married Miss Nancy, daughter of Egbert and Catharine Williams, of Henderson County, and by their marriage had nine children, five of whom are living: John A., James H., M. D., Sophronia and Nettie T. Mr. Milam, by his energy and ability, soon acquired sufficient means to purchase a small farm; in 1869 he sold this, and moved to Dyer County, buying 308 acres of land in the Eighth District, where he has since resided, and increased it to 496 acres, seven miles southeast of Newbern, and is one of the leading farmers of his district. In politics he is a Democrat, casting his first vote for James K. Polk. Mr. and Mrs. Milam are both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and are greatly esteemed in their neighborhood. Mrs. Milam was born in North Carolina, in 1827, her parents both being natives of that State.

The 1850 Census of Henderson Co., Tennessee gives his age as 35 but other records show his birthdate as 1823 which seems more probable.
Zachariah married Nancy J. Williams daughter of Egbert Williams and Catherine in Jan 1846 in Tennessee. Nancy was born 1 in 1827 in North Carolina.
The 1850 census shows her age as 20 but Goodspeed's History of Tennessee gives her birthdate as 1827 in North Carolina.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 50 years. They have had 7 children, all living. Sarah, Susan and Francis are still at home. Also living in the home is Caria Milam, grand-daughter, born in 1886.
Louis married Elizabeth (Betsy) Buck daughter of G. H. Buck and Susan Neisler on 1 Aug 1850 in Henderson Co., Tennessee. Elizabeth was born 1, 2, 3 on 16 Jul 1831 in Center Hill, Henderson Co., Tennessee. She died on 19 Dec 1922 in Henderson Co., Tennessee.

Aunt Betsy Milam was born July 16th, 1831, hence was 89 years on that day when I visited her. Her's is a sprightly bright mind for her great age and her hair is but about half gray. Some times late in the afternoon she visits the farm to see how the work is going on. Her mind is bright about things that happened in her younger days. Aunt Betsy was three weeks old when the first church house was built at Mt. Gilead and her mother cooked the dinner for the hands that raised the walls and the work was assisted by Aunt Betsy White, a neighbor. Her father, the late G. H. Buck, was born in the state of Pennsylvania, was reared in North Carolina and married Susan Neisler and moved to Tennessee in 1827. He was reared by the "Old School " Presbyterians but was a Cumberland Presbyterian all his life and was an elder in the church. Aunt Betsy says that in those days men went as far as five miles to roll logs and it was the custom for each man to make his log heap before breakfast. The first church elders whom she remembers were Joshua Gibbs, Jackson Petty and father, and the first Cumberland Presbyterian preacher she ever heard was Rev. Jordan Lambert. The church house was built of large poplar logs, 22 and 24 feet long. The door for the ladies was on the West side and for the men on the South. The old ladies sat on the left of the pulpit and the brethren on the right, the young ladies farther back on the left and the young men on the right. Ladies and gentlemen were not allowed to sit with each other. The pulpit was breast high.
Aunt Betsy has been a member of the C. P. church 72 years. She was married to L. M. Milam, August 1, 1850, and Mr. Milam, who was also a life-long Presbyterian, has been dead just four years and eight months. Aunt Betsy was reared within one mile of Mt. Gilead Church. She had two sisters, Sallie Cook and Polly Neisler, and eight brothers, Jackson, Charles, George, Milton, William, Wilson, Jordan and Alexander. She owns a farm and lives two miles North of old Center Hill, known as the Daniel McCollum place.--G. H. Buck

They have had 9 children with 6 living. One of the children may be Thomas G. who is found in Carroll Co. in 1900. The other may be Walter J. Milam, also found in Carroll Co.
Felix married Josephine D. Unknown in 1855 in Tennessee. Josephine was born 1 in Aug 1840.
She appears a Mary on the 1900 Census.

Family sources have shown she married an Edwards in 1870. If so, he must have died shortly thereafter and she took back the name of Andrews. In 1880 she is found living with her son, George W. Settle and in 1900 she is found living with her daughter Lokey E. McClanahan.
Louisa married Thomas B. Andrews son of Henry Andrews and Nancy Harris on 1 May 1850 in Stewart Co, , Tennessee. Thomas was born in 1829. He died in Dec 1863 in Stewart Co, , Tennessee.
They had the following children:

The 1900 Census gives his date of birth as Feb. 1858.Hamilton married Kate 1 about 1898. Kate was born in Nov 1873 in Arkansas. 3304 M iv Henry W. Andrews was born on 11 Nov 1859.
