Annie Lee Pegram Higgins, 87, of 2709 Pleasant Ridge Road in Summerfield, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at her daughter's home. Born in Pine Hall, to the late Jones Wright and Annie Hanner Pegram, she graduated from Duke University Nursing program in 1938 and taught at Birmingham Baptist in Alabama and Payne Whitney in New York before moving to Greensboro to teach at St. Leos Hospital in 1947.
She began work at Moses Cone Hospital in 1952 as surgical supervisor and retired in 1977 as Director of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Higgins.
Surviving are two daughters, Georgiana Higgins Nangle and her husband, Richard E. Nangle of Jamestown and Dena Higgins Barnes and her husband, BJ Barnes of Summerfield; her sisters, Polly Higgins and Mickey McFarland at Friends Home; and her brother, Donald Pegram of Summerfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris and Robb Hutchison of Greensboro, Stephanie Barnes of Summerfield, Elizabeth Nangle Kidd of California, Bryan and Jessica Nangle of Phoenix, Ariz., Jonathan Nangle of Jamestown and David Nangle, also of Jamestown; and her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Savannah, Charlie, Taylor and Robbie.Anna married 1 George Edward Higgins on 15 Apr 1949 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. 8415 F iii Pauline Pegram was born 1, 2 about 1916 in Stokesdale, Guilford Co., North Carolina. He was a 2nd Lt. and listed as the pilot of an airplane missing in action over Germany in WWII. Later documents listed him as a prisoner of war. There is another son in the home in 1920, age 6 but we can not make out the name. We have been unable to locate James, Mary Eliza or the 2nd son in 1930.

A native of Belews Creek in Forsyth County, she was a daughter of the late Elza W. and Eliza Linville Pegram and she had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Reidsville Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Drewery A. Talley; three brothers, Rufus Pegram, Fred Pegram, and Buck Pegram; and by her sister, Evelyn P. Hannah. Surviving is one brother, Clarence Pegram of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
