Robert W Wilkinson was the first child born to Willard Wood Wilkinson and Sarah Jane Cottrell. He was born while his father was away at the Civil War. Robert and his mother lived close to her family during this time. When Willard came home from the war, Robert was quoted as saying "Who is that man?" at his first encounter with his father.
In 1887, Robert married Anna Carey. They moved to South Dakota where he worked for the Seaman Farms. Daughter, Helen, was born in 1892 in Mitchell, South Dakota. During one summer, Robert managed the Seaman Farm on the Rosebud Reservation. The Sioux indians would walk into the kitchen on occasion and ask for food.
Later they left the area to make their home in South Sioux City. Robert went into the lumber business which he was to follow most of life. He worked for Edwards and Bradford. In 1902, the family moved to North Dakota with the Wilkinson brothers.
Robert managed banks in the new towns of Denhoff and McCluskey. He also homsteaded and started ranching. Helen remembers of the piano being hauled across the open prairie on a sled. In 1912, the family moved to Goodrich where Robert went back into the lumber business. Helen had left home and was attending school and the University of North Dakota.
Robert and the Davis brothers went into partnership to build the first grain elevator in Wing, North Dakota. Robert was also in the lumber business. Helen had married, so Robert and his son-in-law operated a general store in Wing.
In 1925, Robert and Anna sold their home and went to Portland, Oregon. Along with an Airdale puppy for the grandchildren, Robert and Anna travelled west in a new Reo touring car. They camped along the way in tourist parks.
In Portland, Robert and Anna went into the grocery business. They operated two neighborhood stores until they bought a ranch in Canby, Oregon in 1927. They also had a home and acreage in Woodburn. Anna died in 1930. Soon after Robert retired. Death came to Robert in 1940 at the age of 79 years.
Robert married Anna S Carey on 29 Dec 1888 in Antelope Co, Nebraska. Anna was born on 15 Sep 1867 in Illinois. She died on 28 Oct 1930 in Woodburn, Oregon.

Her obituary from The Oakdale Sentinel on June 27, 1935, reads in part as follows:
Mrs Minnie Rouse, pioneer resident of Antelope County, passed away at her home here Monday. She had been seriously ill for some time. Funeral services were conducted at the United Brethren Church in Oakdale by the Rev. Charles Sodderstein of Clearwater Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mary Minnie Wilkinson was born at Vinton, IA, January 22, 1867 and passed away June 24, 1935 in Oakdale, Nebraska, aged 68 years, five months and two days. At the age of four years she came to Nebraska with her parents, Willard and Jane Wilkinson. They settled first in Grant Township near Oakdale. She lived there until her marriage to James Rouse, after which they lived in Antelope County, the last twenty-nine years being spent in Oakdale. To this union thirteen children were born, two of whom, with her husband, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure five daughters, Mrs Julia Stott and Mrs Nina Soulier of Oakdale, Mrs Blanche Strong of Sioux City, Mrs Evelyn Keck of Clearwater and Mrs Faye Keck of Norfolk, six sons, Clyde of Whitehorse, SD, Charles, David and Lloyd of Oakdale, Roy of Sioux City and John of Elgin, thirty-nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one sister, five brothers and a host of friends. Mrs Rouse was a kind and loving wife and mother. A true friend, ever willing and ready to give assistance to those in need.
Mary married James George Rouse on 4 Jul 1885. James was born on 23 Jun 1863 in Wisconsin. He died on 9 Apr 1931 in Norfolk, Nebraska.
