His obituary reads in part: "Mr. Culpepper, a Portsmouth native, retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 31, after 39 years. He was a Baptist and a member of Seaboard Masonic Lodge 56, A.F. & A.M.; past high priest of Mount Horeb Royal Arch 11; past commander of Portsmouth Commandery 5; and a charter member of Scottish Rite Bodies. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pegram Culpepper; a daughter, Ruth Culpepper Coulbourne of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Charlotte Culpepper Hutchins and Ocie Culpepper Westbrook, both of Portsmouth, and Lola Culpepper Coffin of Sun City, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. S.E. Hathaway III. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Oak Grove Cemetery..."
