The following is from Goodspeeds Biographical and Historial Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas:
Archibald C. May deserves mention as a leading farmer and stock raiser of Tyronza Township, Crittenden County. He was born in St. Francis County, Ark., March 1, 1843, as the son of Archibald May, whose birth occurred in North Carolina in 1808, he dying in St. Francis County in 1854. His parents immigrated from North Carolina to Arkansas when he was a boy, and were among the first settlers of St. Francis County. They came to this State on sleds when Memphis had but one store. The father of the subject of this sketch was married to Miss May Casbeer, of Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas Casbeer, who moved from Tennessee to St. Francis County, Ark., with all his worldly possessions on horseback; he was one of the earliest pioneers of that county. Archibald C. May, the sixth child of a family of nine children, of whom four are still living, was reared in St. Francis County, there receiving his education in the common schools. Moving to Cross County he was married in 1863, his wife being formerly Miss Mollie Pigram, who was born in Tennessee, January 2, 1844. She died December 1, 1884, being the mother of five children, of whom the following three are still living: Archibald B., Joseph M. and Berry P. Mr. May was married to Ida Pickett, July 10, 1886. By this union two children have been born, Jimanna and an infant unnamed. Mr. May has lived in Crittenden County since 1877, and has a farm of 200 acres, with twenty acres in cultivation, located in the Tyronza River bottoms. He enlisted in the Confederate army June 16, 1862, in McGee's company, and served very efficiently till December 19, 1862, when he was accidentally shot in the shoulder and discharged on account of his disability. He was constable in his township in St. Francis County for four years. Politically, he has been a Democrat since casting his first vote, which was for Seymour.

He is shown as 1 day old on the 1850 census taken October 27, 1850. Printed copies of the 1850 census give the middle initial in his name as R. but the original does not look like an R.
James married Talitha Elizabeth. Talitha was born 1, 2, 3, 4 in 1857 in Arkansas.
She is shown as Talitha on the 1880 Census as the wife of James. In 1920, she is found shown as a widow, living with her son, James P. Pegram and also living with her daughter's family.

3860 F i Cora B. Pegram was born in 1879. 3861 M ii Lee Baker Pegram was born on 21 Feb 1882. He died in 1962. 3862 M iii James Patterson Winfield Pegram was born on 13 Aug 1886.
1140. Winfield Scott Pegram (Baker M. , George , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in Dec 1855 in Arkansas. He died 6 on 5 Dec 1933 in Wood Co., Arkansas.
In 1870, he is found living with his sister Mary May.
The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 19 years. The wife has had 8 children with 6 living but one or more of her children may have been by her prior marriage.
In 1910, only the son, Tommie, age 16, remains at home.
In 1920, his wife's name appears to be Annie. There are no children left in the home but there are 2 grandchildren, apparently twins, age 9. The surname is Matlock and the name of one of the children is Wesley but we can not determine the name of the second.
His obituary from the Arkansas Central Leader in McCrory, Woodruff Co., Arkansas, published December 7, 1933 reads as follows:

Another of Woodruff County's oldest citizens is gone. Mr. Winfield Scott Pigram, age 81 years, 11 months and 20 days, died while sitting in his chair at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. J. Vanhoose about 3 miles south of McCrory, Tuesday, December 5,, 1933.
Mr. Pigram was born Dec. 15, 1851 in Memphis, Tenn., and came to Arkansas at the age of five years with his parents. He lived in Woodruff County about 50 years where he engaged in farming and he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church since early manhood.
Surviving the deceased are his two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Ball of Pumpkin Bend and Mrs. Etta Vanhoose, of Rt. 2 McCrory, and one son, Jim Pigram, of Dallas, Texas.
Burial was in the Beards Cemetery, Mr. W. A. White conducting the funeral service.
Winfield married (1) Mary. Mary was born 1 in 1851 in Mississippi. She died about 1880 in Arkansas.
They had the following children:

There appears to be an error on the 1880 Census since it is unlikely that he had a son at age 12 and we know that Winfield Scott Pegram was single and living with his sister in 1870. We will leave this as it is until we find further documentation.3864 M ii James Harrison Pegram was born 1, 2, 3 on 11 Jan 1880 in Arkansas.
At the time he signed the WWI Civil Registration Card, he was a farmer in Corsicana, Navarro Co., Texas.
In 1930, the couple are found living with her parents in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. They have been married for about 17 years but there are no children in the family.James married Addie Little daughter of Robert S. Little and Annie about 1913. Addie was born 1 in 1897 in Alabama.
Winfield married (2) Essie about 1881 in Arkansas. Essie was born 1 in Dec 1855 in Arkansas. She died on 18 Oct 1920 in Woodruff Co., Arkansas. She was buried in Beard's Cemetery, Woodruff Co., Arkansas.

In 1920 the couple had no children of their own but they did have her sister's son whose name appears to be Jeared and identified simply as "orphan".Mary married William J. Vanhoose. William was born 1 on 8 Apr 1883. He died on 28 Mar 1964. He was buried in Woodman Of The World Cemetery, Woodruff Co., Arkansas. 3866 F iv Mattie J. Pegram was born on 4 Sep 1885. She died on 13 Feb 1971. 3867 F v Rosia (Rosie) L. Pegram was born in Aug 1886. She died before 1920. 3868 M vi Earnet or Emmett Pegram was born 1 in Aug 1892 in Arkansas. He died before 1933.
He is not shown as a surviving child in the obituary of his father.
Winfield married (3) Martha Ann (Annie). Martha was born in 1857. She died on 18 Oct 1920 in Woodruff Co., Arkansas. She was buried in Beard's Cemetery, Woodruff Co., Arkansas.

Robert married 1 Martha A. E. Pegram daughter of Allen Pegram and Mary Shearin on 5 Jun 1860 in Warren Co., North Carolina. Martha was born 2, 3, 4, 5 in Mar 1840 in Warren Co., North Carolina.
The 1850 census shows she is 12 years old but we can only assume this is in error.

According to George Lewis Walker Pegram, she died at age 18 m.3875 M iii Thomas Henry Williams was born on 5 Apr 1865.
Elizabeth married (2) Benjamin Lewis W. (Ben) Carroll 1 son of William Carroll and Nancy Cooper on 27 Jun 1870. Benjamin was born 2, 3 in Aug 1845 in North Carolina. He died on 14 Dec 1928.
the 1900s census reflects the couple have been married for 29 years. They have had eight children, all living. William, Maria, Ida, and Lucy remain at home. The 1910 Census shows that one child has died. Only William (Willie) and Lucy are still at home. In 1920 William is still in the home with his wife, Georgia. There are also 2 grandchildren in the home, i.e. George Roberson, age 11 and a grand-daughter, age 9 mo. who is possibly William's child.

3876 M iv George Walter Carroll was born on 20 Aug 1871. 3877 F v Nancy Shelly Carroll was born on 25 Mar 1873 in Franklin Co., North Carolina. Nancy married 1 Robert T. Tharrington about 1891. Robert was born 2, 3 about 1869 in North Carolina. He died on 14 Aug 1951 in Louisburg, Florida.
The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 8 years. They have had no children.3878 M vi Benjamin Louis Carroll was born 1 on 29 Aug 1875 in Franklin Co., North Carolina.
He married and had 7 children.Benjamin married Eliza Jane Gupton. 3879 F vii Sallie Bet Carroll was born on 22 Aug 1877 in Franklin Co., North Carolina.
She married and had 6 children.Sallie married Charlie Roberson. 3880 M viii William Sterlin Carroll was born 1, 2 on 3 Feb 1881 in Franklin Co., North Carolina.
He married and had 5 children.
His WWI Draft Registration card gives his birth date as Feb. 3, 1879 and his wife is shown as Georgie.William married Georgia. Georgia was born 1 in 1894 in North Carolina. 3881 F ix Maria Louise (Lula) Carroll was born on 1 Jan 1884. She died in Nov 1972. 3882 F x Ida Lee Carroll was born on 1 Jul 1886. She died on 25 Jul 1939. 3883 F xi Lucy Carroll was born 1 on 6 Jul 1889 in Franklin Co., North Carolina.
Lucy married and had 5 children.Lucy married Samuel Grover Marshall.

According to George Pegram, John married and had 2 children, a son and a daughter, before his wife died. He is shown on the 1930 Census as a widow, living with his brother. Also in the home is a Thomas J. Pegram, age 23 who we must assume is his son.John married Unknown. 3887 F iv Elizabeth Pegram was born in May 1878. 3888 M v George (Guy) Hunt Pegram 1 was born 2 in 1881 in Warren Co., North Carolina.
Living with the family on 1910 Census was mother-in-law, Mary Harris, age 56, indicating that Mary, wife of Guy Pegram may have been a Harris.
George Pegram's notes tell us that Hunt became very successful in the tobacco business, owning tobacco warehouses in Douglas, Georgia and Knoxville, Tennessee. We have often wondered the source of some tobacco tags we have found from Tennessee and it appears they may have been from Hunt's warehouse.
According to George Pegram, Hunt had no children but this seems to be an error.George married Mary Harris? in 1903. Mary was born in 1871. 3889 M vi Paul D. Pegram was born 1, 2 in Apr 1883 in Warren Co., North Carolina. He died 3 on 12 Jul 1949 in Warren Co., North Carolina.
It would appear he never married. He was living with his sister and her husband in 1900. In 1920 he was shown as HH with his widowed sister and her 5 children. In 1930, he is shown as HH. Other souces show his middle initial as D. but on the 1930 Census he is shown as Paul W. LIving with him are his brother, John shown as age 54 and a widw, his sister LIzzie Frazier and a nephew, Thomas J. Pegram, age 23.3890 M vii Glenn Pegram was born 1 in 1884 in Warren Co., North Carolina.
In 1930, he is found living with his sister, Mary Etta Burrows.

At the time of the 1900 Census, the couple had been married for 18 years. They have had 10 children with 8 living, all of whom are still in the home.
George married Ida Green Wiggins daughter of David W. Wiggins and Agnes Baskett on 21 Dec 1881 in Vance Co., North Carolina. Ida was born 1 on 25 Jul 1860 in Vance Co., North Carolina. She died on 3 Nov 1937 in Vance Co., North Carolina.
Her parents names are taken from her Death Certificate.

3891 M i Joseph Wilson Pegram was born on 19 Mar 1883. He died on 19 Jun 1883. 3892 F ii Eva May Pegram was born 1, 2 on 2 May 1884 in Vance Co., North Carolina. She died 3 on 10 Nov 1927 in Vance Co., North Carolina.
The 1920 Census shows that she was born in Virgina. It is possible the family may have been in Virginia briefly. Apparently she never married.3893 F iii Anne Mary Pegram was born on 29 May 1886. She died on 3 Sep 1941. 3894 F iv Alma Louise Pegram was born 1, 2 on 22 May 1889 in Oxford, Granville Co., North Carolina. She died 3 in Aug 1982 in Concord, Cabarrus Co., North Carolina.
The couple had no children but did have an adopted daughter named Evelyn.Alma married David Pirie on 12 Jun 1913. 3895 F v Agnes Lee Pegram was born 1, 2 on 1 Mar 1892 in Rocky Mount, Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. She died 3 on 5 Jun 1963 in Henderson, Vance Co., North Carolina.
She never married.3896 M vi Julian Hunt Pegram was born 1, 2 on 14 Mar 1894 in Rocky Mount, Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. He died on 4 Aug 1964 in Henderson, Vance Co., North Carolina.

Although all census records for 1850 in Warren Co. show the named spelled as Haithcock, the actual marriage bond for Alfred L. Haithcock and Josephine Bobbitt shows the spelling as Heathcotte.
Alfred L. Haithcock served in the Civil War in Company B., 3th North Carolina Infantry. he enlisted on 16 August 1861and gave his age as 22 which would have him born about 1839 but the 1880 Census gives his age as 45.
They had the following children:
