3548. John H. Pegram (Jesse Franklin , John , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3, 4 on 20 Dec 1849 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina. He died on 24 Apr 1922.
In 1880 he is found living with America's family working as a farmhand. In 1920 he is shown as a widow. Living with him is his single daughter, Elsie, age 19.
His obituary published in "The Emporia Daily Gazette" April 24, 1922, reads as follows:
"J. H. Pegram died at 11:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 810 Cottonwood St. The cause of his death was heart trouble. He had been seriously sick since Saturday night. J. H. Pegram was born December 20, 1849. He came to Kansas about 40 years ago. He moved to Emporia three years ago last August. Mr. Pegram was married October 8, 1882 to Miss America Sharp at Virgil. Mrs. Pegram died May 30, 1916. Mr. Pegram is survived by one son John N. Pegram of Virgil, and one daughter Miss Elsie Pegram of Emporia. Another daughter, Miss Melinda Pegram, died August 1, 1920. Mr. Pegram also is survived by two brothers Lum Pegram of Idaho, and Henderson Pegram of Indiana. He was a member of The United Brethren Church in Virgil."

She died shortly after giving birth to a daughter who is thought to have died at the same time.

His obituary which appeared in The Emporia Gazette, Emporia, Kansas, October 21, 1954, reads as follows:
"John N. Pegram, farmer and stockman who lived at Virgil, died in the Neuman Memorial County hospital Wednesday night at 10:45 o'clock. Funeral services will be held in the Virgil United Brethren Church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Mr. Pegram was born at Virgil July 22, 1893, a son of the late John H. and America Sharp Pegram. He married Fannie Wagner at Grindley, June 27, 1918. he is survived by his wife of the home, and a sister, Miss Melinda Pegram, 1118 West Eleventh, Emporia. He was a cousin of Roscoe W. Graves of Emporia. Mr. Pegram was a member of the Gridley Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite of Topeka."John married Fannie Valora Wagner daughter of Fillmore D. Wagner and Mary F. Parks on 27 Jun 1918 in Gridley, Kansas. Fannie was born 1 on 11 Jul 1893 in Kansas. She died in Nov 1984 in Chanute, Neosho Co., Kansas. 9006 F iii Elsie Pegram was born 1, 2 in 1901 in Kansas.
She apparently never married and left no issue.
