The 1900 Census says she was born in Kentucky.

Mary married Wiley J. Powers son of B. C. Powers and Susan about 1881. Wiley was born ¹ in 1843 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

He apparently did not remarry and is found living alone at the time of the 1880 Census.

They had the following children:

				Ora married George Jesse Giles son of John Manson Giles and Susan Jane King. George was born on 4 Sep 1881 in Kentucky. He died on 19 Feb 1966 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Greenwood Cem, Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

6385. Rufus Cornelius Rives (James Turner Rives , Thomas Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born ^{1, 2, 3, 4} on 23 Mar 1846 in Tennessee. He died on 6 Jun 1920 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. He was buried in King Cemetery, Christian Co., Kentucky.

The following is extracted from Reliques of Rives, page 178:

Rufus Cornelius9 Rives was, like his father, mechanically inclined, and developed some skill as a carpenter and brick-mason. Soon after his marriage he built a double log house of four rooms and a hall between which still stands in fairly good repair. He devoted most of his time to farming, including the raising of tobacco, wheat and corn. After reaching maturity he became interested in reading law, and later took an examination for the bar and was admitted to practice. During the last twenty-five years of his life he devoted a large part of his time to law practice. He was fond of music and was a favorite of the people of his community, especially the young, whom he was ever ready to assist with their entertainments, at his home or elsewhere. His advice was widely sought by young and old alike. The colored people especially came to him with their troubles; and, in the assistance he was called upon to render them, rarely ever made any charge for his services. Many of them--or their parents--had belonged to his father or grandfather. He was for many years a magistrate in the Garrettsburg District, a member of the county court, and a school trustee for twenty years or more. Though he never held any other official positions, nor ever took an active part in religious work, there was no man of his community held in higher esteem than he.

Rufus married Mary William (Mollie) Elliott daughter of John S. Elliott and Mary Slaughter on 10 Sep 1864. Mary was born ^{1, 2, 3} on 4 Apr 1845 in Vicksburg, Warren Co., Mississippi. She died on 29 Jan 1918 in Christian Co., Kentucky. She was buried in King Cemetery, Christian Co., Kentucky.

	12871	M	ii	MacKlin Elliott (Mack) Rives was born 1, 2 on 20 May 1867 in Kentucky. The following biographical account of Dr. Mack Rives is from Reliques of Rives, pp. 178-179: Dr. Mack Rives attended the neighborhood schools (during the winter months) until about the age of sixteen, when he obtained a clerkship in a store at old Garrettsburg. Somewhat later he become a traveling salesman for D. H. Baldwin & Co., of Louisville, Ky. After a year of this work he decided to engage in the grocery business on his own account, but finding store-keeping in the country neither congenial nor profitable he sold out at a loss of several hundred dollars and found employment in Clarksville, Tenn. In 1900 he left Clarksville several hundred dollars in debt and removed to San Francisco, Calif., and went to work in a broker's office dealing in real estate and insurance. He soon contrived to liquidate the indebtedness he had left in Clarksville and to accumulate sufficient capital to open a brokerage business of his own. At the time of the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 he owned an equity in the Hotel Merideth at 252 Turk St., which was completely wiped out by the fire. In the autumn of 1906 he matriculated in the Dental Dept. of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco from which he was graduated in 1909. For ten years he pursued the practice of dentistry at Rio Vista, Calif., finally returning to his old home at Garrettsburg, Ky., to be with his father who died in June, 1920. In that year he entered Cumberland University and was graduated in law in 1921. In winding up his father's estate he was induced to buy the home place in order that it might not pass into the hands of strangers: so he abandoned his purpose of returning to California to practice law and resumed the practice of dentistry, choosing Clarksville, Tenn., for the purpose where he now resides, a bachelor.

6392. James Thomas Coleman ¹ (Mary Jane Rives , Thomas Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born on 8 Mar 1839 in Christian Co., Kentucky. He died on 24 Mar 1904.

The following is taken from Perrin's History of Christian Co., Kentucky: "J. T. Coleman was born in this precinct on March 8, 1839, and is a son of J. W. and Mary J. (Rives) Coleman. The father was a native of Dinwiddie County, Va., and was of English descent. He came to this county in 1834, and on March 8, 1838, he married Miss Rives, (now Mrs. E. T. Stephens, whose sketch appears elsewhere). Mr. J. W. Coleman farmed in this precinct until his death, on March 18, 1863. J. T. Coleman is the eldest and the only one living of four children. His education was received in the schools of this county. He remained at home until eighteen and then began life for himself. He came to his present farm, which was then owned by his father, but which he afterward inherited. Ile now owns about 560 acres of which 350 is in cultivation. Mr. Coleman was married on November 19, 1861, to Miss Jennie Pollard, a daughter of R. C. and Mildred N. (Hardgrove) Pollard, natives of Virginia. Mrs. Coleman was the mother of eight children, viz.: Cardan S., Mary N., James C., Lula, Earnest W., Alice E., Jennie B. and George P., and died on November 8, 1879. Mr. Coleman was next married on October 17, 1883 to Miss Mary Hugh Cooper, who was a daughter of Capt. H. C. and Elizabeth (McKenzie) Cooper (deceased), and was born on January, 31, 1861. In June, 1874, Mr. Coleman was elected Justice of the Peace of this precinct, and has since served in that capacity. He is a member of Church Hill Grange, No. 109, and is identified with the Democratic party in politics."

James married (1) Eliza Jane Pollard daughter of R. C. Pollard and Mildred N. Hardgrove on 19 Nov 1861 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Eliza was born in 1841. She died on 8 Nov 1879 in Christian Co., Kentucky.

The tombstone inscription reads "Father of Wayne F. Rives and Mayme Rives Stewart"

James married Dovie G. Griffin. Dovie was born ¹ in 1869. She died ² on 24 Apr 1967 in McCracken Co., Kentucky.

She was 98 years old at the time of her death in 1967.

6408. Almeda Elizabeth (Almeda Web) Newman (Lucretia Mabry , Anne (Nancy) Rives , William McGuffy Rives , Thomas Henry Rives , Mary Pegram , Daniel , George ) was born ¹ on 8 Oct 1840 in Warren Co., North Carolina. She died on 9 Sep 1918 in Warren Co., North Carolina.

Almeda married ¹ William Thomas Rooker son of Presley Rooker and Nancy Pegram on 7 Nov 1865 in Warren Co., North Carolina. William was born ^{2, 3} on 21 Mar 1844 in North Carolina. He died on 2 May 1911 in Warren Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Zion United Methodist Church, Warren Co., North Carolina.

At the time of the 1900 Census, Almeda is show as a widow. Four children remain at home, i.e. Lula J., Martha Ellen, William A. and Nora. Her son, George Lee Rooker is next door. However, we know that William Thomas is still living since he is shown on the 1910 Census living with his son, Henry Foote Rooker.

The death date is from family records but this does not agree with the 1900 Census which shows that Almeda is a widow.

His tombstone bears the inscripton: "An honest man is the noblest work of God." "CSA"
