Margaret Overton Lewis, 75, a resident of St. Paul's Place, formerly of High Point, died Monday evening, March 15, 1999, in the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 8, 1923, in Clinton, N.C., a daughter of Preston F. Lewis and Nell Blackburn Lewis. Ms. Lewis was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. While a resident of High Point she was a Decorator with Tomlinson Furniture Company of High Point and was owner of Tally Ho Gift Shop. Ms. Lewis was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. After Margaret moved to Winston-Salem in 1982, she was involved with her church, with art, and with her neighborhood. Margaret felt a deep reverence for God's Creation and appreciated natural beauty. At St. Paul's Church she participated in the Altar Guild's Flower Committee, on the Earth Stewardship Committee, and in the St. Francis Fellowship, the ministry developing the gardens and worship on the church grounds. She was a member of the West End Garden Club, designed decorations for homes on the West End House Tour, and for several years maintained the garden in front of the YWCA. She appreciated the power of words. She studied writing at Chapel Hill and served on the board of the "Crescent Review", a literary magazine. At St. Paul's she was a lay leader and coordinated the workshop services sponsored by the Francis Fellowship in the outdoor chapel. Margaret was also an artist and an art teacher. She was an art instructor for the YWCA, as well as a volunteer for Project New Start, a program for female offenders and inmate families at the YWCA. After she became ill, she was a faithful member of the cancer support group at St. Paul's and helped to provide art therapy to cancer survivors. Margaret also loved her neighborhood, her church community, and her friends in the West End. She served on the board of the Summit Apartments where she lived and also on the board of the West End Association. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Pegram Helton and husband Ephraim of Danville, KY; a son, Chauncey M. Pegram, III and his wife Kimberly of Greensboro; four grandchil-dren, Chelsea Elyse Pegram, Chauncey Miles Pegram, Megan Woods Helton and Patrick Gardner Helton
