John went to Oliver High School, and quit in the 12th grade to enlist in the Army. He is a veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne as a medic. He got out of the Army in 1945 and married Vivian. They moved to Pittsburgh, PA. John got a job at Screw and Bolt Steel Mill. After he got laid off there he worked for a meat packing company. After he left the meat packing company, he worked delivering groceries for a store in Benavon. Then he got his final job working for Puralotor Courier, where he drove to different banks. He retired around 1979 for medical reasons. He enjoyed fishing and was a very good whistler. He is buried in Allegheny Memorial Park, Pittsburgh, PA.

Elizabeth Grady Walker Pegram, age 85, of Granbury and formerly of Coleman, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Glen Rose Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday (April 6, 2001) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dean Coultas officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mrs. Pegram was born October 7, 1915 in Coleman, the daughter of Milton Walker and Katherine (Kitty) Grady Walker. She was raised in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1932 and attened C.I.A., (now Texas Women’s University) in Denton. She married Lonner L. (Mike) Pegram in 1935 in Coleman. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was interested in the history of the Texas Rangers because her grandfather, Caleb Grady was a Texas Ranger. She had lived in Granbury for the last 30 years where she was a homemaker and a Methodist. She is survived by two daughters, Libby Cleveland of Dimmit, Ann Ballard of Granbury; two sisters June London and Patricia Egan both of San Antonio; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.

Henry B. Pegram, Jr., 76, of 3018 Hope Valley Road, died Thursday night at Duke Medical Center. Mr. pegram was born and reared in Durham. He was the son of the late Henry B. and Gertrude Sykes pegram. He was a graduate of Durham High School and attended Duke University. For about 23 years he was associated with Sperry-Rand Corporation in its purchasing department. He was then employed by the State of North Carolina, and at retirement was Chief of Purchasing for the state. He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and the Durham Sports Club.
