Mrs. Vassy died Saturday, January 26, 2008. Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late William Ward and Estelle Roddey Pegram. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, the Damas Club, the Euphrosynean Literary Society and the Coed Association.
Mrs. Vassy was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, served as a circle leader and was a member of the Board of Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Quadrille Club and the Hyacinth Garden Club. Surviving are son, Charles Allen Vassy, Jr. of Columbia; sister, Mrs. Frank Davenport of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Jenell Vassy of Greenville and Rosemary Vassy of Murrells Inlet; nephews, David Anderson and his wife, Lucy, and Robert Vassy, Jr. and his wife, Patti; and nieces, Buford Hayes, Roddey Stoudenmire and her husband, Julian, and Vicki Holler and her husband, John. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Charles Allen Vassy who died December 9, 2007 and by her brother, William Ward Pegram, Jr.
Julia married Charles Allen Vassy 1 son of Jonas Charles Vassy and Orilla Langston. Charles was born on 15 Feb 1920. He died 2 on 9 Dec 2007 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Vassy died December 9, 2007. He was born in Timmonsville, S.C., and was the son of the late Jonas Charles Vassy and the late Orilla Langston Vassy. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1941, with a Bachelor of Science degree and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II where he reached the rank of Major and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in the South Pacific. At the University of South Carolina he was active in campus affairs and was a member of Blue Key Honor Society, President of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, President of Interfraternity Council and a member of German Club.
Dr. Vassy graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., in 1949, after which he practiced dentistry in Columbia for 40 years. He was a member of the South Carolina Dental Association and was its Secretary for many years. He was also a member of the local Dental Society, the Central District Society and the American Dental Association. He was a member of Forest Lake Club, the Quadrille Club and the Sertoma Club.
A member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church since the early 1950’s, Dr. Vassy served as a deacon and an elder and was Clerk of Sessions. He also served as Superintendant of the Sunday school.
Dr. Vassy is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Julia Pegram Vassy of The Presbyterian Retirement Community, and a son, Charles Allen Vassy Jr., of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Vassy, of Murrell’s Inlet, Jenell Vassy of Greenville, and Mary Buford Davenport, of Charlotte; nieces, Vicki Holler (John), Roddey Stoudemire (Julian), and Buford Haynes; nephews, Robert Vassy (Patti) and David Anderson (Lucy). He was predeased by brothers, Robert G. Vassy and Rion D. Vassy.

RURAL HALL - Mr. Junior Reece Pegram, 70, of Rural Hall, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on Sept. 23, 1932, in Anson County to the late Reece and Ella Mae Vaughn Pegram. Mr. Pegram was a retired carpenter and a member of Free Will Baptist Church of Wadesboro. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Virginia Mae Newman Pegram of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and James Anderson of Siloam; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy Lee Pegram of the home and David Reece and Dawn Pegram of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Candi Fernandez and Matthew, David and Marilyn Pegram; a great-grandchild, Kadison Fernandez; two stepgrandchildren, Brad and Tabitha Niten; a sister and brother-in-law, Edna Tucker and husband, J.D. of Wadesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening, Oct. 21, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Judson Milam. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Interment will be at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct, 22. Officiating will be Bro. Don Collins.
