787. Margaret Dennis (Henry J. Dennis , Anna Pegram , William , John , William , George ) was born 1, 2, 3, 4 on 11 Feb 1855 in North Carolina. She died 5 on 12 May 1939 in Harnett Co., North Carolina.
In addition to her sister, son and daughter-in-law, there is a niece and nephew living in the home in 1920 but we can not read their names.
In 1900 she is a widow. The 1900 Census shows she has had 7 children with 5 living, all of whom are still in the home. The 1900 Census shows her birth date as Mar. 1854. We are showing the children as they appear on the 1900 Census since there is clearly a difference from the 1880 Census in the oldest son.
Margaret married Festus Alexander Parker about 1877. Festus was born 1 in 1850 in North Carolina. He died before 1900.
The Will of Henry J. Dennis gives his name as Alexander Parker but the McIver book gives his name as P. P. Parker. His first name of Festus is from the death certificate of his daughter, Cora Lillian Parker and his wife, Margaret.

Flora married Marshall L. Byrd son of George W. Byrd and Charlotte Surls. Marshall was born 1, 2, 3 in Dec 1854 in North Carolina. He died 4 on 2 Feb 1933 in Durham, Durham Co., North Carolina.
In 1920, the 3 younger children are still at home with their father. In 1930, Marshall J. was living in Durham with his son, Marshall B. Byrd.

He graduated from Texas A & M in the class of 1926. He was co-author of the song known by all students of Texas A & M, and indeed all Texans, "The Spirit of Aggieland".
In 1931 he was director of physical education at Conroe, Texas high school.

Her name on the 1900 census is clear but the birth date is illegible.
Minnie married 1 William Riley Johnson son of Matthew Troy Johnson and Carolyn (Caroline) Jones on 23 Dec 1901 in Harnett Co., North Carolina. William was born 2, 3, 4 on 26 Aug 1864 in Harnett Co., North Carolina. He died 5 on 27 Feb 1939 in Harnett Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Cokesbury Cemetery, Harnett Co., North Carolina.
On the 1880 Census his name appears as Wriley Johnson.
Unfortunately there are many blanks and errors on his death certificate. About the only things that are correct is his mother's name. His son, John G. Johnson was the informant. The death certificate indicates his wife is still living but omits her name.

George Harrington moved to San Francisco before 1910 when he is found as a single man, working as a motorman on a street car. He probably married by 1912 or 1913 since it appears their oldest daughter was born in 1913 or 1914. They apparently remained in the San Francisco area until at least 1915 since their second daughter, Claire was born there in 1915.
In 1920 the family was living in Imperial Co. but in 1930 they were in Oakland, Alameda Co., where George was again working as a motorman on a streetcar.
George married Alice Horn daughter of Henry Horn and Alice after 1910. Alice was born 1 in Jan 1892 in Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho.

800. George Braxton Pegram (William Howell , George Washington , William , John , William , George ) was born on 24 Oct 1876 in Trinity, Randolph Co., North Carolina. He died on 12 Aug 1958 in Swathmore, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania.
George Pegram received his Ph.D. from Columbia in 1903. Except for a year spent studying in Europe (as a Tyndall Fellow in 1907-1908), he remained at the University and was a pillar of the Columbia scientific community throughout his entire academic life. He was an Assistant in Physics in 1900, and later Chairman of the Department. He became Dean of the School of Mines, Engineering and Chemistry in 1918, Treasurer of the American Physical Society from 1927-1937, Dean of the Graduate School in 1930, Vice President of the University in 1949 and Vice Chairman of the Central Advisory Committee to the Manhattan Engineering District during World War II.
Dr. Pegram was appointed Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Uranium in 1939 by President Roosevelt, immediately following the historical letter from Einstein about the importance of nuclear energy.
George married Florence Bement on 3 Jun 1909 in West Newton, Middlesex Co., Ma. Florence was born on 10 Apr 1884 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The 1900 Census finds him in Oxford, Granville Co., North Carolina working as a Clerk in the railroad office. He is living with Phillip Hawkins who is shown to be a telegraph operator. In 1910 he married, still living in Oxford and working as a bookeeper in a hardware store.
The 1910 Census shows the couple have had 2 children with 1 living, i.e. William Robert, Jr.
According the 1930 City Directory, the couple were living in Raleigh, North Carolina where William was employed as a bookkeeper and living at 815 N. Bloodworth. William, Jr. was employed as soda dispenser at Person St. Pharmacy and Kate was shown as a student.
William married 1, 2, 3 Gladys Blacknall on 21 Jan 1907 in Vance Co., North Carolina. Gladys was born 4, 5 about 1883 in North Carolina.
They had the following children:

Notes in the William Howell Pegram papers indicate that Mr. Shaw was from Lillington, North Carolina and there were 2 girls and 1 boy born of the marriage. The notes do not include the names of the children.
Emma married Allen Marsh Shaw on 15 Oct 1912. Allen was born 1 on 20 Sep 1876.
They had the following children:
