Carmon Jackson Stuart Greensboro June 5, 1914 - August 4, 2004 Carmon Jackson Stuart, of 1244 Arbor Rd., formerly of Dogwood Drive, Greensboro died Wednesday, August 4 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Ashe County on June 5, 1914, to Beulah Blevins Stuart and Claud Isom Stuart. He graduated from Appalachian State University and then Duke University Law School in 1938. Following two years with the Broughton Law Firm in Raleigh where he met his future wife, Elsie Pegram, he began a career with the FBI, which carried him to several cities and ended with his retirement in 1964 as the Resident Agent in Winston-Salem. He then became the Solicitor and City Attorney for Winston-Salem until 1971. At that time, he was appointed as the Clerk of Court for the Federal Middle District of NC. Following his retirement from this position in 1983 and until recently, he was instrumental in the formation and operation of the Duke Private Adjudication Center at Duke University Law School. Among the many awards he received in his long and distinguished career, was the "Angie" award in 1981 as the most outstanding Clerk of Federal Court. In 1993, he was given the Judge John Parker award, the highest award given by the NC Bar Association. He was recognized as "father of courtordered arbitration in North Carolina." In September 2003, he co-chaired a committee of the NC Bar which wrote and published a book entitled Alternative Dispute Resolution in North Carolina, which serves as a handbook for the state’s attorneys. Carmon loved the study of law and served his entire career as a public servant. At the time of his death at age 90, Carmon was using his computer to write a series of stories that describe significant events in his life. He was a long time member of West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife Elsie in 1989. His daughter, Lee Ann Stuart Stiffler and husband Gary of Winston-Salem; two sons, David Stuart and wife Janet, of Sunset Beach, and Jack Stuart of Charlotte survive him. A sister, Grace Brown and husband Carl of Kannapolis; a granddaughter Kelly Stuart of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a grandson, Eric Stuart, of Raleigh, also survive him. There was a family visitation at Vogler’s Reynolda Rd. Chapel Friday, August 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. There was a private family graveside service on Saturday in Greensboro.

Anne Barden Pegram, 83, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2008. She was the widow of Macon N. Pegram Sr., and is survived by her daughter, Myra Fitzgerald and her husband, Rod; sons, Rev. Nick Pegram Jr. and his wife, Jennie, Carter Pegram and his wife, Margie; sister, Myra B. Grainger; brothers, Larry W. Barden and William E. Barden Jr.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mandi Jo Leigh.

Graham - Mr. George Wilbur Pegram, 76, of 413 Walker Ave., died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after four weeks of failing health and a critical illness of one week. A native of Halifax County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Atkins Pegram who survives, and the son of Mr. Willie Henry Pegram and Mrs. Martha Frances Handy Pegram, both deceased. He was retired from Gate City Towing and Recovery in Greensboro. He was Baptist. Survivors other than his wife of the home include one son, Mr. Larry George Pegram of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Reba P. Jones of North, S.C.; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.
He was 76 at the time of his death.

Louise was born in Maitland, FL, while her father was operating a general store as a partner with her grandfather W. H. Pegram. The family moved to Leesburg, FL in the summer of 1917, where Louise spent the rest of her life. She met her husband Loren Liston through her father, who was the bookkeeper for the same company for whom Loren drove a truck. She was very active in the Morrison Memorial Methodist Church, singing in the choir, hosting circles for the Women's Society and the like. She managed a home that contained her parents, Bert and Eda Pegram, her grandmother, Louise Eigle, her great-uncle, Alfred Eigle, her father-in-law, Z. Taylor Liston, her husband Loren, and daughter Mary Leigh. By 1950, both her mother and grandmother had died and her great-uncle was committed to an institution in Arcadia, FL due to his mental retardation. After the death of her husband in 1965 she worked with a former partner of her father's bookkeeping office until her death in 1967.
Julia married Loren Lee Liston 1 son of Zackery Taylor Liston and Nellie M. Copas on 16 Oct 1934. Loren was born on 5 Jun 1906 in Otway, Ohio. He died on 20 Jan 1965 in Leesburg, Lake Co., Florida.

"Loren was born in Otway, Ohio, which is in the southeast corner of Ohio just north of the Ohio river. Sometime during his early childhood he suffered from diphtheria. His father was said to have treated it by giving him turpentine or kerosine. During this period his mother left with his older half-brother and divorced from his father. Loren moved with his father to Florida, where his uncle John Liston lived. Loren worked many different jobs; driving a truck, as a welder and mechanic. Although over the draftable age when WWII broke out he volunteered for the Marines. He served in the South Pacific behind the lines as a mechanic. After the war, he ran Corley Island Dairy for his father-in-law J.H. Pegram. The dairy was sold in the late 1950's, and Loren returned to work as a mechanic. He died suddenly in his sleep with a massive cerebral hemorige."
