3579. Clarence Clyde Pegram ¹ (Isaiah S. , John , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born ² on 18 Jul 1890 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He died ³ on 30 Nov 1958 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Pleasant Ridge United Church of Christ Cemetery, Guilford Co., North Carolina.

Clarence Clyde studied music at the Oak Ridge Institute. Soon after attending Oak Ridge, Clyde departed for Cincinnati to enroll in that city's Conservatory of Music. The School was founded in 1867 as the one room studio of instructor Clara Baur, and today is part of the University of Cincinnati School of Music. Besides the violin, young Clyde also learned clarinet. After leaving Cincinnati, Clyde Pegram served in the miliary as a musician, his first stint during World War I. Pegram was assigned to the 81st division, 321st Infantry Band and served in France. Clyde Pegram returned to America and civilian life to perform with dance orchestras at at Moore's and Vede Mechum Springs, Southern Pines, Pinehurst and other NC locales. He went back into the military between 1921 and 1925. After his second enlistment, Clyde stayed close to home. He was single and living at home at the time of the 1930 Census. He helped out on the family farm and took care of his elderly parents, never contemplating marriage until late in life. After the death of his parents, Clyde Pegram married Cordie Pendergrass, born 1914 in Wilkes County.

Clarence married ¹ Cordia Pendergrass daughter of Lindsay Pendergrass and Privett on 9 Feb 1945 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Cordia was born on 31 Aug 1914 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. She died on 12 Jan 2000 in Greensboro, Guilford Co., North Carolina.

Birth date based on age as shown of birth certificate of son, William Paul.

Her obituary reads in part:

Mrs. Cordia Lee Pegram 85, former resident of 6836 Pepperdine Rd. died Wednesday in her sleep at Friendship Care Nursing Center.

Funeral will be at 4pm Friday Jan. 14th 2000 at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service Chapel conducted by Dr. Phil Norwood. Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge United Church of Christ Cemetery immediately following services.

Mrs. Pegram was born in Wilkes County on Aug. 31st 1914 to Joel and Sena El Media Pendergrass. She was a homemaker and wife of a tobacco farmer. She was the widow of Clyde Pegram who was a native of Guilford County and a World War I veteran. He also taught Violin courses at the prestigous Oak Ridge Military Academy.

Mrs. Pegram is survived by her son Willie Pegram and wife Kay of Greensboro, her grandson Mark Pegram, 2 step-grandson's and 1 step-granddaughter. Also she had 4 step great-grandson's. Also she is survived by one brother Howard Pendergrass of Wilkes County and several nieces and nephews.

According to his sister's obituary, James was living in Homedale, Idaho in 1946. It is possible that James may have married twice since his wife in 1920 is shown as Pearl E., age 37, born in Nebraska.

The 1918-1919 farm directory of Homedale, Idaho shows a family of 9 residing in the home. The oldest child was age 20 and the youngest was 2 1/2

James married (1) Allie Smith daughter of William Alexander Smith and Sarah Jane Loveland about 1898. Allie was born ^{1, 2} on 5 Jun 1877 in Nebraska.

The wife of James is shown as Pearl E. on the 1930 Census but the birthdate and place appear to be correct and we have no indication that he remarried.

James married (2) Pearl Elizabeth McDowell on 20 Sep 1904 in Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho. Pearl was born on 20 Sep 1882 in Falls City, Richardson, Nebraska. She died on 29 Apr 1957.

Ziegler Funeral Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Elmer Zlegler, formerly of Madison, who died Thursday morning In a WichIia hospital, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral home and will be conducted by the Rev. J.. C. Brogan, pastor of the Grace Methodist church. Burial will be In the Memorial Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Zlegler, whose maiden name was Carrie Demarris Pegram was born December 10, 1888, at VIrgil; a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pegram.. She married Elmer I. Ziegler July 29, 1909, and spent most of her married life in Toronto and Madison. The family moved to Witchita three years ago and to Augusta about a year ago. Mrs. Ziegler was a member of the Madison Methodist church.

Mrs. Zlegler is survived by her husband; two sons, Keith Enlow Zlegler, of Madisonville, Ky.; and Arthur Deloss Ziegler in the service; three grandsons, Keith E. (Kay) Zlegler, who. lived with Mr. and Mrs. Zlegler since he was one year old; Carry and Roger Ziegler, Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Cliff W. Zlegler, 793 Mechanic; Mrs. Frank Maxson, Eureka; two brothers,. James A. Pegram, Homedale Idaho; and Arthur F. Pegram, Emporia. Two nieces, Opal Zlegler and Mrs. Erwin Gile, and a sister-In-law, Mrs. T. O. Pooler, live In Emporia.

Carrie married Elmer Issac Ziegler son of Isaac Ziegler and Mary Ann on 29 Jul 1909. Elmer was born ^{1, 2} in 1879 in Kansas.

I liked the description of his occupation on the 1930 Census which shows he is employed as a "Tonsorial Artist" in a barber shop.

Dave Fuller, whose family has lived in Guilford Co., North Carolina and surrounding area since 1810, has close family ties to the Pegram family. He tells us that William Henry Pegram went to Texas after his marriage, intent on becoming a Texas Ranger. After the loss of his wife and one child , Julian, in Texas, he decided to return to North Carolina where he remarried and had another family.

William married (1) Margaret McGeever. Margaret was born ^{1, 2} about 1868 in Ireland. She died ³ on 20 Mar 1941 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

	9104	F	iii	Ruth Regina Pegram was born 1, 2, 3 on 22 May 1903 in North Carolina. She died 4 on 4 Apr 1993 in Monterey Co., California. In 1930 she was still single, living a home and working in a hosiery mill.
				Ruth married Noble.
	9105	F	iv	Edith L. Pegram was born 1 in 1908 in North Carolina.

William married (2) Harrietta Starbuck on 6 Apr 1878 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Harrietta was born about 1859 in North Carolina.

She died on a trip to Texas with her husband.

3590. Sally Pegram (James Fletcher , Jesse , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born about 1860.

Sally married ² John William F. McMichael ¹ son of Archibald McMichael and Lucy Pegram on 2 Mar 1880 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. John was born ^{3, 4} in 1847 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He died in 1941.

On the 1860 Census he is identified as Jno. W. McMichael age 14 and is living with his parents, Archibald McMichael and wife Lucy Pegram.McMichael.

In 1880 he and his new wife, Sallie Pegram McMichael are found living with his aunt, Rhoda Brooks in Kernersville, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.

Also living in the home in 1880 is a Bittie Pegram (Peggran) identified as Aunt, age 64, that we have not yet identified.

In 1910 he is identified as William McMichael living in Forsyth Co. The 1910 Census shows the couple have been married for 13 years. Esther shows she has had 8 children, all living in the home.

3593. Charles Richard (Charlie) Pegram (John Wyatt , Jesse , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born ^{1, 2, 3} on 24 Nov 1882 in Mercer Co., West Virginia. He died on 29 Jul 1926 in Raleigh Co., West Virginia.

He appears as Charles P. in th 1920 Census which shows he is working in the coal mines.

According to his death certificate, the cause of death was homocide from a gun shot wound. The date of birth on his death certificate is off by 10 years since it shows his birth date as 1892.

Charles married Amanda (Mandy) Carr about 1908 in Mercer Co., West Virginia. Amanda was born ^{1, 2, 3} on 25 May 1892 in Floyd Co., Virginia. She died on 22 May 1974 in Raleigh Co., West Virginia.

In 1920, the couple and their children were living with her father, Virgil Lusk, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Samuel married Mamie Lusk daughter of Virgil Stuart Lusk and Mary J. Candler about 1899. Mamie was born ^{1, 2, 3} in Oct 1869 in North Carolina.

Other sources have said she was born in Alabama but the 1900 Census shows that both she and her parents were born in North Carolina. The 1900 Census further shows she has been married for 1 year and has had no children. Apparently she was just visiting with her parents since Samuel is not listed with her on the Census. She apparently was an adopted child.

Clay married Minnie Young. Minnie was born ¹ about 1888 in Pennsylvania. She died ² on 12 Jun 1961 in Gaffney, Cherokee Co., South Carolina.

According to her obitury, she was 93 years old but this may have been a transcription error.
