We are placing Parthenia as the wife of Thomas Winfree even though we have no family records at this time to support this. There were a number of Pegram females names Parthenia during the mid-1800s and Parthenia is the only one we are aware of who was the right age and not otherwise accounted for during this period.
Parthenia married 1 Thomas Winfree on 22 Aug 1858 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Thomas was born 2, 3 about 1823 in Stokes Co., North Carolina.
This was apparently a second marriage for Thomas since there is an older child, Lucy Winfrey, age 19, in the home at the time of the 1860 census.

1060. James H. Pegram 1 (Baker , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 2, 3, 4 on 23 Nov 1826 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He died on 19 Nov 1905 in Winston Salem, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.
Another source gives James' name as James E. rather than James H. and also places him as a son of Jacob instead of Baker. However, since Jacob had a daughter born only a few months before James, we will assume that Baker is the father of James.
In 1870 there is a Rhoda Gurley, age 86 living in the home. Relationship, if any, is not known.
The 1900 census shows that the couple have been married for 30 years and have had no children. His occupation on the 1900 Census is given as grocery salesman.
The 1900 Census gives his month of birth as December.
James married (1) Julia Ann Shaw daughter of John Shaw and Jane on 6 Apr 1852 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Julia was born 1, 2, 3 about 1835 in North Carolina. She died in 1880.
She died between the birth of Flora in 1868 and 1870 when James married Abigail.

The 1880 Census shows an Orville W., age 4 mo. and a Walter E. age 6, Pegram living with John Fletcher's family and identified as grandsons. We have not determined who the parent of these boys may be.
John married Nancy Ellis Jones daughter of Caleb Callus Jones and Delaney Medaris. Nancy was born 1, 2, 3 on 12 Dec 1823 in Stokes Co., North Carolina. She died 4 on 4 Feb 1898 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

According to the 1899 Census, the couple have had 1 child, i.e. Charlie R. McKaughan, who is living at home. However, Charles is actually Isaac's son by a former marriage to Esther G.______.Mary married 1 Isaac Harrison McKaughan son of Archibald McKaughan and Mary Jane Welch on 24 Aug 1899 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina. Isaac was born 2 on 26 Aug 1837 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He died on 4 Apr 1933. 3616 M iv John William Pegram was born on 18 Apr 1858. He died on 31 Mar 1943. 3617 M v Francis Marion Pegram was born on 1 Apr 1860. He died on 20 Nov 1939.

Eliza married 4 Joseph William Lasley 1, 2, 3 son of Joseph Lasley and Nancy Gentry on 20 Nov 1848 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Joseph was born about 1823 in probably Stokes Co., North Carolina. He died in 1863 in Orange Courthouse, Virginia.
The death certificate of Mary E. Lasley shows her father to be Josephus Lashley. However, it seems most of the family still uses Lasley as proper spelling.

Joseph William died at Orange Courthouse, Virginia after contracting measles and pneumonia while serving in the army during the Civil War. His widow, Eliza Pegram Lasley, settled in Rockingham County, NC and reared her children to maturity. She gave land for the Mt. Zion Methodist Church located between Stokesdale and Madison and was one of the founders of the church. Her tombstone in the cemetary is unique in that all the names of her 9 children are listed on the back of the stone.

1070. Rev. Thomas Howard Pegram (Jacob , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born 1, 2, 3 on 11 Jan 1825 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He died on 24 Mar 1906 in Winston Salem, Forsyth Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Salem Cemetery..
His obituary which appeared in the Washington Post on March 25, 1906 reads as follows:
"Winston-Salem, N. C., March 24. Rev. Thomas Howard Pegram, one of the most widely-known ministers in North Carolina, died here to-day in his eighty-second year. He was born January 11, 1825, in Guilford County, and was licensed to exhort at the age of nineteen years. He was licensed to preach and joined the North Carolina Methodist Protestant Conference .in 1847. He filled the highest office in the gift of that body, being elected president two or three times. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at the annual session of the North Carolina Conference held at Salisbury In 1877. At his request he was superannuated at the annual session of the Western North Carolina M. E. Conference at High Point in 1904. During his unbroken ministry of more than fifty years ho built thirty-seven churches and several parsonages.
Before his death he planned his own funeral, which will be held Monday. Six ministers were chosen by him for active pallbearers."

The following is from William G. Cutler's History of the State of Kansas - 1883:
J. M. Pegram, miller and farmer, Section 33, P. O. Mulvane, was born in North Carolina in 1829, son of Jacob and Ursula (Dwiggins) Pegram. He married, in 1851, Miss Lydia Stephens, daughter of George and Sarah Stephens, born in North Carolina in 1810. They have one child, Albert. Mr. Pegram came to Kansas in 1875, located in Belle Plaine, Sumner County, and engaged in farming until 1878, when he moved to Mulvane and engaged in merchandising. In 1882 he moved to Salem Township, and purchased the flouring mill on the Cow Skin Creek, Section 33; mill 28x30 feet, two stories, known as the Mulvane Mill; has two run of stone, with a capacity of 100 bushels per day. He was elected Justice of the Peace in Mulvane in 1881; resigned in the fall of the same year, on account of other business. He is a member of the Society of Friends. Left North Carolina in 1861, on account of persecution, he being a strong Anti-slavery man.
John married 1 Lydia Stephens daughter of George Stephens and Sarah Unknown on 19 Aug 1850. Lydia was born 2, 3, 4 in 1811 in North Carolina.
The ages on the 1880 census are probably incorrect. John is shown as 57 and Lydia is shown as 69
