Mrs. Beulah Elizabeth Whicker Smith, 88, of 6065 Friendship-Ledford Road, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Forsyth County a daughter of John Elijah and Augusta Pegram Whicker.
Mrs. Smith was an avid gardener and farmed with her husband for many years. She was a member of New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
She was married July 12, 1944, to Lindsay Allen Smith. He died Oct. 18, 1989. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rosetta Whicker, Alma Murray and Reba Beeson; and a brother, Newton Whicker. Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Judy S. Townsend of 198 W. Bridge Road, Winston-Salem and Mrs. Louallan S. Hedgecock and husband Art of 3079 Abbotts Creek Church Road, Kernersville; a brother, James Whicker of Kernersville; a sister, Mrs. Clara Dwiggins of Oak Ridge; and four grandchildren, Chip Townsend, Cathy Falkson and husband Fritz, Allen Hedgecock and Madison Hedgecock.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. David Nolan.
Beulah married Lindsey Smith on 12 Jul 1944. Lindsey died on 18 Oct 1989.

His obituary from the Greensboro New and Records includes the following: Mr. Newton Eugene Whicker, 75, of 2800 Piney Grove Road died Thursday, Oct. 26, 1995, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Forsyth County to the late John E. and Augusta Pegram Whicker. He graduated from Walkertown School and Draughn's Business College. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and treasurer. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II from 1942-1945, a retiree of Brendles and an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Alma W. Murray and Reba W. Beeson. Surviving are his wife, Marie Holt Whicker of the home; son, Ronald E. Whicker Sr. and wife, Susan of Greenville; daughter, Wanda W. Smoot and husband, Keith of Kernersville; grandchildren, Ronald Whicker Jr., Elizabeth Smoot and Katie Smoot; sisters, Beulah W. Smith of Winston-Salem, Clara W. Dwiggins of Kernersville; and brother, James A. Whicker of Kernersville. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Goodwill Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville.
Newton married Marie Pearl Holt daughter of Emmett Powell Holt and Geneva Divine Pegram on 31 Dec 1948. Marie was born on 8 Feb 1927.

Kernersville - Mrs. Margie Pegram Hester, 82, of Reidsville Road died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hester was born in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late Alvin W. and Sudie Dwiggins Pegram, and was a member of the Goodwill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tucker Andrew Hester, brother Walter Pegram and sister Dorothy Fulton. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Jo Parrish, and a son, Mike Hester and his wife Ann, all of Kernersville; grandchildren and their spouses Jeff and Ginger Parrish, Jill and Landon Potts, Nena and Jason Eller, Jason Hester and Travis Hester; great-grandchildren Cody Parrish, Katie Parrish, Sophie Potts, Ashley Hester and Jessica Hester; a sister, Mildred "Mick" Linville of Walnut Cove; and a brother, Donald Pegram of Kernersville. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Mervin Garrison.
