Stokesdale — Mr. R. Jack Neal, 74, of 1716 U.S. 200, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home, surrounded by his family. His home going service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Neal was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County. He was a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a retired farmer and was a former owner and operator of Farmers Warehouse, Madison, and was associated with Smothers Warehouse, Reidsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Birch and Ollie Smothers Neal. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lucille Pegram Neal of the home; son, Terry Neal and wife, Angel of Stokesdale; daughters, Linda Neal of Stokesdale and Phyllis Soyars and husband, Keith of Madison; grandchildren, Chris Hopper, Teressa Collins, Georganna Hopper, Dereck Neal, Katie Neal, Jennifer and Lauren Soyars; and great-grandson, Zack Hopper; sisters, Sybil Gardner of Greensboro, Jill Strader of Summerfield, Barbara Price of Stokesdale and Judy Neal of Jamestown.

Her obituary from the Greensboro News & Record, Greensboro, North Carolina reads in part:

Notra Pegram Heaps, formerly of Greensboro, lost her battle with cancer Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, after a two year fight. She had been living in Phoenix, Ariz., for several years.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, 3235 Yanceyville St., Greensboro, which will be officiated by the Rev. R.A. Pegram and assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Ray Thomas.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church, Phoenix, Ariz., with the Rev. R.A. Pegram officiated. Burial was in the Green Acres Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Gary B. Heaps of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Barbara P. Marlow and Elmore (Sis) Pegram of Greensboro; brother, the Rev. R.A. Pegram of Greensboro and Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her dad and mother, Hersie and Flossie Pegram.

She and husband Terry Pegram founded the company in 1983. Joanne was active in the formation and on- going success of the Jimmy V Classic Golf Tournament. She was a founding member of the Cary Debutante Ball Society and contributed to the success of the Cary Art Ball. Joanne was born in Greensboro, NC in 1954. She was a graduate of Grimsley High School and Averett College where she earned a degree in Fine Art. Joanne is survived by her husband, Terry Lyn Pegram and stepson Brian Shane Pegram both of Cary; mother, Anne Kirkman Wade and husband Bert Wade; sister, Jacqueline Lee Kirkman; and brother, Joe Wyatt Kirkman all of Greensboro... Joanne was preceded in death by her father, Joe Wyatt Kirkman Sr. who died in 1986.
