(Hancock) Garms on June 11, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She married Ron Smith on April 5, 1969, in Odessa, and had been a resident of Abilene since 1977. She was a hairdresser at Vendetta?s Salon.Deborah was a member of First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene where she served as a deacon and taught four-year-olds in Sunday School for over twenty years. She also served on the Board of Directors of Big Country Aids Resources; was a member of National Hair Dresser and Cosmetology Association; and worked with the American Cancer Society, having taught ?Look Better, Feel Better? to cancer patients.She was preceded in death by her mother, ?Toni? Garms, and her son, Ronald Todd Smith.Survivors include her husband, Ron Smith of Abilene; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Dr. Ed Jump of Miramar, Florida; her father, George H. ?Jerry? Garms Jr. of Abilene; a brother, George H. Garms, III of Odessa; a sister, Eugenia Marie Baker Nicholson of Midland; three grandchildren, Britni, Taylor, and Hunter; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene with Dr. Clifford S. Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Rita Adams Cashion, 61, of Raleigh died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Rex Hospital. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on May 4, 1943 and raised in Henderson, she was the daughter of Esker R. Adams and Clara Savage Adams, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jerry C. Cashion of the home; a son, Jay P. Berner (Rebecca) of Lawrence, MA; a daughter, Tiffany Anne Willard (Christopher), and two grandchildren, Seth Andrew Willard and Sydney Paige Willard of Pfafftown. Her sister Ann Adams Satter-white of Raleigh and her brother Salvatore (Sonny) Gitano (Vera) of Henderson, also survive along with a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters predeceased her, Faye Adams Schaefer and Suzy Adams Dowd.
Mrs. Cashion was employed as a secretary by Farmers Cooperative Exchange and by the Depart-ment of Cultural Resources, retiring as administrative secretary to the director of the Division of Archives and History. While employed at Archives and History she served as assistant secretary treasurer for a number of organizations including the Friends of the Archives, the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies, and the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh. A memorial service for Mrs. Cashion will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Byran-Lee Chapel with burial following in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Duke Gynecologic Oncology Program, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, DUMC P.O. Box 3828, Durham, NC 27710.
